Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 11 Georgetown Plays to Scoreless Draw at Butler

WASHINGTON – The No. 11 Georgetown women's soccer team played the Butler Bulldogs to a scoreless draw in double overtime on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Hoyas, who lead the BIG EAST, battled second-ranked Butler in 110 minutes of play, but neither team could score the game-winning goal. With the 0-0 tie, GU holds a 10-2-3 overall record and 4-0-2 in the BIG EAST while the Bulldogs stand 8-4-3 on the year and 3-1-2 in the league.

COACH NOLAN ON THE MATCH

This was another hard-fought game on the road against one of our biggest conference rivals. It's not an easy surface to play on but we tried our best to make something happen. Unfortunately, the two teams canceled each other out and the key was to try to score on a set piece and make sure they didn't do likewise. We finished stronger but couldn't find that moment. Now we're onto another scrap at DePaul on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A solid defense on both ends allowed the Hoyas and the Bulldogs to take a total of five shots in the first half.
  • Senior Paula Germino-Watnick had a chance to put the Blue & Gray on the board just before the half, but her shot went wide.
  • With 30 seconds left in regulation, GU had a chance to score on a corner kick but couldn't connect the play.
  • The Hoyas had more opportunities to score the golden goal in double overtime and didn't allow Butler to take any shots in the last 10 minutes of play.

OF NOTE
  • The Hoyas outshot the Bulldogs 11-9 and took seven corner kicks to their two.
  • Freshman keeper Anna Leat recorded her sixth shutout this season. Leat had five saves on the day.
  • Germino-Watnick took a game high of six shots.
  • Georgetown leads the BIG EAST and remains the only unbeaten team in conference play.

UP NEXT
