No. 7 Hoyas Host Marquette on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The No. 7 Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the Marquette University Golden Eagles on Saturday in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Shaw Field at 1 p.m. The Hoyas are currently 12-1-1 on the season and 5-0-1 in league play, while the Golden Eagles sit at 7-6-1 for the year with a mark of 3-3 in the BIG EAST.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 3-0 victory at No. 4 St. John's on Wednesday.  At the time of the game, the teams were sitting in the top two spots of the RPI.
  • Jacob Montes, Dylan Nealis and Derek Dodson all scored as Tomas Romero notched his fifth shutout on the season.
  • Wednesday was Georgetown's sixth-straight shutout and the ninth of the season.
  • With the win, the Hoyas clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Championship.
  • Two players earned weekly honors on Monday following the 2-0 week with wins over Xavier and then-No. 25 Maryland.  Nealis earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Nikopolidis was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. 
  • Georgetown ranks first in the nation in the most recent RPI and was seventh when the United Soccer Coaches poll came out on Tuesday.
  • Dodson leads the team in scoring with 16 points on five goals and six assists.  He is followed by Montes with a team-high seven goals for 14 points.
  • Paul Rothrock is third with a goal and a squad-high seven assists for nine points, while sophomore Zach Riviere also sits at third on the team with four goals and one assist.
  • Georgetown will celebrate senior day on Saturday honoring its nine seniors in a pregame ceremony.  The group has been a part of three NCAA Tournament berths, three BIG EAST Tournament Championships and one regular season championship.
 
About the Golden Eagles
  • Marquette has won two straight after a 3-2 victory over Butler on Wednesday in Milwaukee.
  • Defender Josh Hancock headed in a cross in the 41st minute for the game winner.
  • The previous Saturday, the Golden Eagles downed Villanova 1-0 in Pennsylvania on a game winner from Connor Alba.
  • Josh Coan leads the squad with 14 points on five goals and four assists.
 
Series with Marquette
  • Georgetown is 13-1-3 all-time against the Golden Eagles and 8-0-1 at home.
  • Last year, the Blue & Gray managed a 2-0 victory at Shaw Field in the BIG EAST Championship.  Brendan McDonough and Achara scored to secure back-to-back BIG EAST titles for the Hoyas.
  • The last regular season meeting was a 0-0 double overtime tie in Milwaukee on September 29, 2018.
  • The last regular season meeting at Shaw was a 2-1 decision in 2017 as all three goals came within the first 16 minutes of action and Montes assisted on both Hoya scores.
