WASHINGTON - Two Georgetown University men's soccer players earned weekly honors on Monday following another 2-0 week for the Blue & Gray. Senior defender
Dylan Nealis earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second-consecutive week, while junior forward
Derek Dodson was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. The No. 7 Hoyas are currently 13-1-1 on the season and 6-0-1 in BIG EAST Conference play having secured a top-two seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship.
Dylan Nealis
- Nealis helped the Hoyas to back-to-back shutouts last week as he anchored a defense that held opponents to just seven shots on goal.
- In a 3-0 win over St. John's on Wednesday, Nealis played all 90 minutes and helped hold the Red Storm to just seven total shots, four on goal. Nealis also scored against St. John's, the second goal in the 24th minute.
- He was also instrumental on defense in a 3-0 win over Marquette on Saturday.
- This is Nealis' third player of the week award this season, including the second in as many weeks, and the fourth of his career.
- The Hoyas have had four BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week awards this year.
Derek Dodson
- Dodson recorded five points in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas.
- The junior captain scored the third goal against St. John's.
- He also set up the second goal in the 24th minute, in a quick two-goal spurt in the middle of the first period.
- The forward scored the third goal in the victory over Marquette on Saturday.
- This is his first weekly award this season and the second of his career. Georgetown has won three BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week awards this year.
- Dodson was named to the honor roll on Sept. 30.
The Hoyas will be back in action on Saturday when the squad travels to Villanova University for a 1 p.m. BIG EAST Conference matchup.
