Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 11 Georgetown Extends Six-Game Win Streak at Villanova

WASHINGTON – The No. 11 Georgetown women's soccer picked up its fourth-straight shutout on Thursday afternoon in a 2-0 victory at Villanova. The Hoyas scored both goals in the second half to claim their sixth-consecutive win this season and advanced to 8-2-1 overall and a perfect 2-0-0 in the BIG EAST while the Wildcats fall to 5-4-1 on the year and 1-1-0 in the league.

COACH NOLAN ON THE MATCH

It's never easy to win a BIG EAST game on the road and Villanova has been having a good season with some impressive wins, so I was very happy with the performance from the girls today. The rain and artificial turf made it difficult to play but we put enough sequences together to win the game and could have had a few more goals. We continue to get better every game and we will need to be at our best on Sunday up at Providence.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Junior Jenna Menta wasted no time in the second half to start the scoring. Sophomore Jenna Royson created the play and crossed over to graduate student Amanda Carolan, who then found Menta inside the box and set her up perfectly to give GU a 1-0 lead.
  • Senior Paula Germino-Watnick scored the second goal of the match off of a penalty kick, the Blue & Gray's first of the season. Germino-Watnick took the PK after freshman Julia Leas was fouled inside the box.

OF NOTE

  • Georgetown continues its 14-game win streak in the BIG EAST, not losing a conference match since the 2017 season.
  • The Blue & Gray outshot the Wildcats 15-6, allowing VU to take just three shots per half. Georgetown also had the edge on 'Nova in corner kicks with a 5-2 margin.
  • Freshman Anna Leat tallied three saves in goal.
  • Menta's goal was her first of the season while Germino-Watnick recorded her fifth.

UP NEXT

The Blue & Gray will stay on the road for another game, traveling to Rhode Island to face the Providence Friars in a BIG EAST matchup. Georgetown will take on the Friars on Sunday at 1 p.m. Live stats and a live stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.
