Hoyas to Host Butler, Xavier in BIG EAST Action

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team opens the home portion of its BIG EAST schedule this weekend against visiting Butler and Xavier. The Hoyas welcome the Bulldogs to the Hilltop on Friday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. before taking on the Musketeers in the friendly confines of McDonough Arena on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. Saturday's showdown with Xavier will also serve as Georgetown's DIG PINK! event.

QUICK HITS
•    Georgetown is 11-5 overall to start the season and went 1-1 in BIG EAST play to begin league action.
•    Iva Vujosevic was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time in five weeks this season.
•    The Hoyas will host five of their next six matches at McDonough Arena.
•    Saturday's showdown with Xavier will be Georgetown's DIG PINK! event.

ROTATION NOTES
•    Six different Hoyas are averaging at least a kill per set.
•    Vujosevic leads the way with 3.59 kps, followed by Elissa Barbosa with 2.32 kps. Margo Snipe (1.70), Peyton Wilhite (1.67), Riley Wertzberger (1.46) and Brennan Wilhite (1.33) round out the six.
•    Four Hoyas average at least two digs a set, led by Jessica Cusi's 3.52 and followed by Vujosevic (2.68), Barbosa (2.30) and Emma Plutnicki (2.02).
•    Makayla Serrett and Brennan Wilhite are battling for the team lead in blocks, averaging 0.87 and 0.83 bps, respectively.
•    Emma Plutnicki averages 8.35 assists per set to pace the offense with Margo Pivonka added 4.38 aps.
•    Vujosevic has recorded 28 service aces on the year, followed by Cusi with 18 and both Plutnicki and Barbosa with 13 each.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
•    Georgetown is 3-10 all-time against Butler, with all three victories coming in the past two seasons. The Hoyas swept the Bulldogs in both meetings in 2018.
•    Butler (4-10) is coming off a five-set marathon victory over DePaul in Indianapolis on Wednesday.
•    Anna Logan leads the Bulldogs with 2.67 kps while Brooke Gregory adds 2.28. Megan Ramseyer paces the offense with 8.88 aps.
•    Defensively, Elizabeth LaBue anchors the back row with 4.74 dps while Melody Davidson adds 1.23 bps at the net.
•    Georgetown swept Xavier in both matches last season to earn its first wins ever against the Musketeers. The Hoyas are now 2-13 all-time against Xavier.
•    The Musketeers take on Villanova on the Main Line before heading to the Nation's Capital to meet the Blue & Gray.
•    Three Xavier players average at least two kills a set, led by Lauren Hanlon with 3.04 kps. Norah Painter and Moriah Hopkins chip in 2.38 and 2.26 kps, respectively.
•    Xavier runs a 6-2 offense, with Ailsa Watson and Carrigan O'Reilly posting 5.35 and 5.33 aps, respectively.
•    Defensively, Alyssa Overbeck averages 3.78 dps. At the net, Jayda Carlton averages just over a block a frame with 1.17 bps.

SIDE OUT
Georgetown hits the road once more for a midweek match at Seton Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Following the trip to the Garden State, the Hoyas return to the Nation's Capital for a three-match homestand against St. John's, DePaul and Marquette.
