No. 3 Hoyas Travel to Villanova on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The No. 3 Georgetown University men's soccer team will travel to Villanova University on Saturday for a BIG EAST Conference matchup at the Higgins Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. The Hoyas are currently 13-1-1 on the season and 6-0-1 in league play, while the Wildcats sit at 8-7-1 for the year with a mark of 1-5-1 in the BIG EAST.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 3-0 victory over Marquette on Saturday.  The first goal was a Golden Eagle own goal followed by a converted penalty kick from Achara.  Finally, Derek Dodson scored on assists from Achara and Jacob Montes.
  • Wednesday was Georgetown's seventh-straight shutout and the 10th of the season.
  • With the win, the Hoyas clinched one of the top two seeds in the BIG EAST Championship.
  • Two players earned weekly honors on Monday following the 2-0 week with wins over Marquette and then-No. 4 St. John's.  Dylan Nealis earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Dodson was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
  • Georgetown ranks first in the nation in the most recent RPI and was third when the United Soccer Coaches poll came out on Tuesday.
  • Dodson leads the team in scoring with 18 points on six goals and six assists.  He is followed by Montes with a team-high seven goals and one assist for 15 points.
  • Achara is third with four goals and three assists for 11 points, while Paul Rothrock rounds out the top four with a goal and a squad-high seven assists for nine points to tie Zach Riviere who has four goals and one assist.
  • Saturday is Georgetown's final road contest of the regular season.
 
About the Wildcats
  • Villanova is 8-7-1 this season and 1-5-1 in BIG EAST play.
  • The Wildcats' last victory was a 2-1 win over La Salle on October 15.
  • The squad's lone conference victory was a 1-0 triumph over Xavier.
  • Lyam MacKinnon leads the team with two goals and four assists for eight points on the year.
 
Series with Villanova
  • Georgetown is 27-11-5 all-time against the Wildcats and 9-6-3 on the road.
  • Last year, the Blue & Gray picked up the 2-1 win in double overtime at home as Riley Strassner scored the game winner in the 106th minute of action on assists from Kyle Zajec and Brendan McDonough.
  • The last meeting on Villanova's campus was a 2-1 Georgetown victory during the 2015 campaign. 
  • The last time the squads met in Pennsylvania was a 2-0 GU win in 2017 which was played at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa.
