Women’s Basketball Hosts Richmond in Home Opener on Tuesday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Richmond University Spiders on Tuesday evening in a 7 p.m. matchup at McDonough Arena.  The Hoyas are currently 0-1 on the young season, while the Spiders sit at a record of 1-1.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 66-52 loss at Davidson to begin the 2019-20 season.
  • Sophomore Nikola Kovacikova led the Hoyas with 12 points, and senior Anita Kelava added 10 for two Georgetown players in double figures.
  • The duo also combined for 16 rebounds as Kelava pulled down nine, including five on the offensive glass, and Kovacikova managed seven.
  • Georgetown was outrebounded 46-38 but forced 18 Davidson turnovers while committing just 14.
  • GU shot 30.8 percent (20 for 65), but allowed the Wildcats 41.7 percent (25 for 60) shooting from the field.
  • The Hoyas have a number of new faces and new roles after graduating a trio of scorers from a season ago.
  • The Blue & Gray will play three nonconference home games this season with two in November and one in December.
 
About the Spiders
  • The Spiders fell to 1-1 on the season after a 78- 59 road loss at Charlotte on Saturday.
  • Richmond was led by sophomore Emma Squires who scored a career-high 19 points.
  • UR outrebounded the 49ers, 34-30, but were outscored 48-24 in the paint.
  • The first game of the season was a 70-62 win at UNC Greensboro to open the 2019-20 season.
  • Jaide Hinds-Clarke was a preseason All-Atlantic 10 honoree as the Spiders were selected to finish 11th in A-10 Preseason Poll.
 
Series History
  • The Hoyas are 10-7 all-time against the Spiders and 7-1 at home.
  • Last year, GU won the season opener at Richmond by a score of 73-53.
  • The last meeting in The District was a 82-78 Georgetown victory early in the 2013 campaign.
