WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will compete in the 2019 Gavitt Tipoff Games, the annual early-season series between the BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences, when the Hoyas host Penn State at Capital One Arena on Thursday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
GAMEDAY INFORMATION
- Wednesday's game will be broadcast live on FS1 with Kevin Kugler calling the play-by-play and Donny Marshall providing analysis.
- The game can be heard locally on The Team 980 radio station with Rich Chvotkin in his 46th season on the call.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Hoyas (2-0) opened up a double-digit lead at halftime and three Hoyas scored in double figures in an 89-78 victory over Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon.
- Omer Yurtseven tallied his second double-double in as many games with 17 points and a team-leading 15 rebounds.
- Jagan Mosely put in a flawless effort with 13 points from a 4-for-4 effort from the field including a perfect pair from downtown and a 3-for-3 performance from the charity stripe. He contributed three rebounds, a pair of assists as well as one steal and one block in 26 minutes of action.
- Jamorko Pickett rounded out those in double figures with 10 points and he and Qudus Wahab each finished with seven rebounds.
- James Akinjo dished out a team-high seven assists.
- As a team, Georgetown shot 50 percent (33-66) from the field and outrebounded the Bears 55-31.
- Yurtseven was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his consecutive double-doubles to open the season.
SCOUTING PENN STATE
- Penn State enters Thursday's contest with a 2-0 record after home wins over Maryland Eastern Shore (84-46) and Wagner (91-64) to start the season.
- The Nittany Lions are averaging 87.5 ppg on 48 percent shooting, including a 37.7 percent clip from beyond the arc.
- Lamar Stevens leads Penn State with 15.0 ppg, while Myreon Jones (12.0 ppg), Myles Dread (12.0 ppg) and Izaiah Brockington (11.0 ppg) round out those in double figures.
- Mike Watkins is averaging 9.5 ppg while pulling down a team-high 9.5 rpg and leading the squad with eight blocks.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
- Thursday will be the 43rd meeting all-time between the Hoyas and Nittany Lions, with Penn State holding a 22-20 series advantage.
- The last matchup coming during the 2004-05 season and Georgetown has won the last five meetings, dating to 1973-74.
- Overall, the Hoyas are 65-92 all-time against members of the Big Ten Conference and 1-0 under Head Coach Patrick Ewing.
- This will be Georgetown's fourth contest in the Gavitt Tipoff Games, and the Hoyas hold a 1-2 record in the series with the one victory coming in an 88-80 win at Illinois last season.
ABOUT GAVITT TIPOFF GAMES
- The fifth annual Gavitt Tipoff Games, an annual early-season series of eight games played between the BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences and named in honor of BIG EAST founder and basketball visionary Dave Gavitt, runs from Monday, Nov. 11, through Thursday, Nov. 15.
- Dave Gavitt began his coaching career at Dartmouth, his alma mater, and then led Providence to eight straight postseason bids in 10 years and guided the Friars to the 1973 Final Four.
- Gavitt had a profound and lasting influence on the sport of basketball on the collegiate, professional and Olympic levels. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
- The Gavitt Tipoff Games are played in the first full week of the college basketball season. The series will span eight years (2015-22), with games played at home sites. In each of the first three seasons, the BIG EAST and Big Ten split the eight games, 4-4.
