No. 3 Georgetown Hosts Creighton in Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON – The No. 3 Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the Creighton University Bluejays in the BIG EAST Conference regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon at Shaw Field.  The opening kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Hoyas are currently 14-1-1 on the season and 7-0-1 in league play, while the Bluejays sit at 8-6-1 for the year with a mark of 4-4 in the BIG EAST.

  • The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action.  Live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.  Fans can follow the in-game scoring on Twitter at @GUHoyasMSoccer.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown has already clinched a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship as well as a bye and the No. 1 seed in the league tournament.  This is GU's sixth regular season title in program history.
  • On Saturday, the Hoyas defeated Villanova 2-0 in Pennsylvania.  Derek Dodson converted a penalty kick in the 27th minute, and Jacob Montes added his eighth goal of the year in the 73rd minute on the assist from Achara.
  • It marked Georgetown's eighth-straight shutout and the 11th of the season marking the longest shutout streak in program history.  The team leads the nation in goals-against average.
  • Two players earned weekly honors on Monday following the 1-0 week.  Tomas Romero earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors, while Sean Zawadzki was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.  It was the first-career award for both players.
  • Georgetown ranks first in the nation in the most recent RPI and was third when the United Soccer Coaches poll came out on Tuesday.
  • Dodson leads the team in scoring with 20 points on seven goals and six assists.  He is followed by Montes with a team-high eight goals and one assist for 17 points.
  • Achara is third with four goals and four assists for 12 points, while Paul Rothrock rounds out the top four with a goal and a squad-high seven assists for nine points to tie Zach Riviere who has four goals and one assist.
  • With the first-round bye, the Hoyas will host a BIG EAST semifinal matchup against the No. 4 seed on Wednesday, November 3 at Shaw Field at 1 p.m.
 
About the Bluejays
  • Creighton is sitting in fourth place in the league with one game remaining.  The Bluejays have clinched a postseason berth.
  • Jake Ashford was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday scoring the game winner in overtime in a 2-1 win over Butler on Senior Day in Omaha.
  • The Blujays have won two of their last three going into Wednesday's matchup.  The squad has had its past two contests go into overtime going 1-1 in that span.
 
Series with Creighton
  • Georgetown is 5-3-1 all-time against the Bluejays and 3-1-1 at home.
  • Last year, the Blue & Gray picked up the 2-1 win in overtime on the road as Dodson as scored the game winner in the 93rd minute of action on the assist from Kyle Zajec.
  • The last meeting on the Hilltop was a 3-1 Georgetown victory during the 2017 campaign. 
  • Georgetown has ended the regular season with Creighton for the past five-consecutive seasons.
