Hoyas Defeat Central Arkansas 89-78

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team opened up a double-digit lead at halftime and three Hoyas scored in double figures in an 89-78 victory over Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena. The game was the opening round of the 2K Empire Classic.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Omer Yurtseven tallied his second double-double in as many games with 17 points and a team-leading 15 rebounds.
  • Jagan Mosely put in a flawless effort with 13 points from a 4-for-4 effort from the field including a perfect pair from downtown and a 3-for-3 performance from the charity stripe. He contributed three rebounds, a pair of assists as well as one steal and one block in 26 minutes of action.
  • Jamorko Pickett rounded out those in double figures with 10 points and he and Qudus Wahab each finished with seven rebounds.
  • James Akinjo dished out a team-high seven assists.
  • As a team, Georgetown shot 50 percent (33-66) from the field and outrebounded the Bears 55-31.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Early in the first half, Yurtseven put in the work and was one board shy of a double-double midway through the frame with 12 points and nine rebounds as the Hoyas were up 20-16.
  • A fast-break dunk by Josh LeBlanc, off of an Akinjo steal and assist, started a 12-3 run to close out the half as the Hoyas took a 54-42 lead at the break. Myron Gardner and Mosely each had two baskets in the run and Akinjo knocked down a trey.
  • Georgetown maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half as Jahvon Blair led the squad with seven points and Galen Alexander added six.
 
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will host Penn State at Capital One Arena on Thursday, Nov. 14 as part of the 2019 Gavitt Tipoff Games, the annual early-season series between the BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences. Tipoff against the Nittany Lions is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FS1 and fans can listen locally on The Team 980.
