DALLAS – The Georgetown University basketball team opened the game on a 20-2 run and never looked back, defeating Southern Methodist University 91-74 on Saturday night at SMU's Moody Coliseum. With their second-straight road victory, the Hoyas improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Mustangs suffer their first loss and fall to 8-1.
ON THE RECORD
"This was the best shooting game of my tenure here. Everyone did something to help us to win. I mean, we had 26 assists. I think that was the difference. The ball moved, the ball found the open guy who were able to step in and make shots." - Head Coach
Patrick Ewing

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hoyas had the hot shooting hand from the opening tip, hitting eight of its first 11 shots, including 4-of-6 from from beyond the arc. A 14-0 run, capped by a Blair 3-pointer gave the Hoyas a quick 20-2 lead with five different Hoyas scoring. The run was sparked by a pair of McClung triples.
- As the Mustangs attempted to climb out of the hole, the Hoyas continued to pile on as Myron Gardner managed a conventional three-point play followed by a Yurtseven turnaround jumper to extend the lead to 22 (33-11) with 7:41 on the clock.
- As the squads traded treys, it was a Pickett dunk that silenced the raucous Dallas crowd to push Georgetown ahead by 24 (42-18), its largest lead of the frame.
- Just as the first frame started, it closed on a pair of McClung triples as the Blue & Gray continued the onslaught, holding SMU to a paltry 20.0 percent from the field in the first half. Georgetown held a 49-29 advantage at the break.
- McClung battled through traffic to nail a layup to start the second half, pushing the lead to 22 but a 9-2 Mustang run cut the deficit to 15 prompting a GU timeout with 16:34 remaining.
- A quick five points from Pickett, on a conventional three-point play followed by a breakaway dunk, put the Hoyas right back to the 20-point lead, 60-40 with 13:43 on the clock.
- The Hoyas piled on as another triple from McClung, a jumper from Qudus Wahab and a trio of Blair 3-pointers extended GU's lead to 27 (79-52), its largest of the night, with 8:06 remaining.
- Yurtseven scored eight-consecutive points for Georgetown down the stretch before a layup by Wahab put a wrap on the 91-74 victory.
