Five Hoyas Earn All-Region Honors

WASHINGTON – Five members of the No. 2 Georgetown University men's soccer team earned United Soccer Coaches All-East Region honors on Monday.  Named to the first team were senior captain Dylan Nealis, junior Jacob Montes, junior captain Derek Dodson and sophomore Giannis Nikopolidis.  Earning the nod to the third team was sophomore midfielder Sean Zawadzki.
 
Dylan Nealis
  • BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST.
  • The senior started all 22 games with four goals and five assists on the year to rank fourth on the team in scoring with 13 points.
  • Nealis was part of a defense that has tallied 12 shutouts.
  • Earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament team and was the Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
  • The defender was named defensive player of the week three times this season for the Blue & Gray.
  • A MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist.
  • This is Nealis' second First Team All-Region award.                                                                                                                    
 
Derek Dodson
  • A First Team All-BIG EAST honoree.
  • Dodson leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and eight assists for 28 points on the campaign.
  • He has three game winners to his credit and is 2-3 on penalty kicks.
  • Earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
  • Dodson was named the offensive player of the week on 10/27 and earned one nod to the weekly honor roll.
  • This is his third all-region award and first nod to the first team.
 
Jacob Montes
  • BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and Unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST.
  • Montes is second on the team in scoring with a team-high 11 goals and five assists for 27 points.
  • He boasts a team-best four game winners.
  • The junior has started all 22 games for the Blue & Gray this season.
  • Montes was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on 9/23.
  • This is his first all-region award.
 
Giannis Nikopolidis
  • Selected as the BIG EAST Co-Goalkeeper of the Year and  First Team All-BIG EAST.
  • Nikopolidis has been splitting time in the net so he has 11 starts to his credit with 1015 minutes played.
  • The sophomore has a record of 9-1-1 overall and boasts 4.5 shutouts this year.
  • He has 35 saves and a 0.53 goals-against average.
  • Nikopolidis was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on 10/13 and earned one nod to the weekly honor roll.
  • This is his first regional award.
 
Sean Zawadzki
  • Named Second Team All-BIG EAST.
  • The midfielder has started all 20 games he appeared in with two goals, including one game winner, for four points on the season.
  • Zawadzki earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on 11/4.
  • This is his first regional award.
 
Third-seeded Georgetown has advanced to the 2019 College Cup and will face seventh-seeded Stanford on Friday evening in Cary, N.C. at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.  The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.  Tickets can be purchased through GUHoyas.com.
