WASHINGTON – Coming off a thrilling home victory over No. 17/16 Villanova, the Georgetown University men's basketball team (16-10, 6-7 BIG EAST) hits the road to face Creighton (14-13, 5-9 BIG EAST) in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET and a link to live stats is available at GUHoyas.com.
The game can be seen live on FOX with Justin Kutcher calling the play-by-play and Steve Lavin serving as the color analyst. The game can be heard locally on WOL 1450 AM and SiriusXM channel 201/964 with Rich Chvotkin in his 45th season on the call.
The Hoyas are coming off an 85-73 victory over the Wildcats at Capital One Arena on Wednesday.
Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y. / Wings Academy) and
Mac McClung (Gate City, Va. / Gate City) led the Hoyas with 21 points apiece as Govan went 8 of 12 from the field and McClung nailed a quartet of 3-pointers – both were perfect from the charity stripe combining for a 9-of-9 effort. Govan tallied his eighth double-double of the season with a team-best 11 rebounds.
James Akinjo's (Oakland, Calif. / Salesian College Preparatory) nine assists paced the offense as the Hoyas recorded 23 assists in the contest. Georgetown shot 50.9 percent (29 of 57) from the field and the GU bench outperformed Villanova 22-9.
Govan leads three Hoyas in double figures with 18.2 points per game while averaging 7.9 rebounds per game, ranking fifth and third in the BIG EAST, respectively.
Mac McClung (Gate City, Va. / Gate City) and
James Akinjo (Oakland, Calif. / Salesian College Preparatory) add 13.5 and 13.0 ppg in the backcourt. LeBlanc ranks second on GU in rebounding, and fourth in the BIG EAST, with 7.3 boards a contest and continues to be efficient in the offensive zone ranking second in the conference in field goal percentage at 65.2 percent. Akinjo leads the BIG EAST in assists with 136 on the season, averaging 5.2 apg.
Creighton snapped a four-game losing streak with a 79-67 win at DePaul on Wednesday. Five Bluejays scored in double figures, led by Ty-Shon Alexander with 16 points and a game-high six assists.
On the season, Alexander paces CU with 16.5 ppg while Martin Krampelj adds 12.7 ppg and Marcus Zegarowski chips in 10.8 ppg. Both Davion Mintz and Mitch Ballock average double-digits as well, each posting 10.1 ppg. Krampelj hauls in 6.6 rpg and Ballock paces the offense with 3.3 apg.
Georgetown and Creighton met earlier this season on Jan. 21 in the District with the Bluejays pulling out the 91-87 victory. Govan led three in double figures with 22 points while adding a game-best 12 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. LeBlanc and McClung each chipped in 10 points to round out those in double figures. Akinjo dished out a career-high 11 assists to pace the offense. Alexander led Creighton with 26 points.
Following Saturday's game, the Hoyas return to the Nation's Capital to close out their home schedule with back-to-back games at Capital One Arena. Georgetown hosts DePaul on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. and Seton Hall on Saturday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m.
