Hoyas Travel to No. 8/7 Marquette and DePaul This Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's basketball team (11-11, 5-6 BIG EAST) will hit the road with a pair of BIG EAST Conference matchups on the weekend slate.  The Hoyas will face the No. 8/7 Marquette University Golden Eagles on Friday at 8 p.m. ET at the Al McGuire Center.   The squad will then travel to DePaul University for a 3 p.m. ET contest on Sunday.

Friday's game will be a FOX Sports All-Access game on FS1.  Head Coaches James Howard and Carolyn Kieger will wear live microphones from tipoff through both teams' postgame speeches. The game is presented commercial-free on FS1, allowing FOX Sports cameras and microphones to capture moments not normally available to a television audience, including live access to every team huddle and inside both locker rooms during halftime and postgame.  Play-by-play announcer Lisa Byington and analyst and Hoya alum Monica McNutt will be live with the call.  Sunday's contest will be available on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Dave Bernhard and Trish Babock McGraw calling the action.  Live stats for both games will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.

Graduate student guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday. Adomako led the Hoyas to their first weekend sweep of the season, averaging 21.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and .436 shooting in victories over Creighton and Providence. She posted back-to-back double-doubles, beginning with 23 points and 13 rebounds in Friday's 62-53 win over the Bluejays to even the season series, followed by 20 points and 10 caroms in Sunday's 61-56 victory over the Friars to seal the sweep.

GU has three players averaging double digits as Adomako and senior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) lead the team with 16.0 and 15.5 ppg, respectively.  Graduate student Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) is third with 11.0 ppg.  Adomako and White are averaging 8.2 and 7.7 rpg to rank first and second on the squad, White has a team-best 72 assists on the season as well as 60 steals, and Venson has 53 helpers to her credit.  Adomako leads GU with 40 blocks, while junior forward Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) is in second with 36 to her credit.

Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in blocks with 5.0 bpg.  Adomako ranks fourth in the league in scoring, while White sits at sixth and Venson at 26th.  Adomako is fifth in rebounding and White is sixth.  White ranks third in the conference in steals, and Adomako is second in the league in blocks per game while Kelava sits behind her at fourth.

Marquette is 19-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 in league play.  MU's last loss came against then-No. 2 Notre Dame on December 22.  All five starters are averaging in double figures as Natisha Hiedeman leads the way with 18.5 ppg as well as 5.8 rpg.  She is followed by Allazia Blockton who is back from injury and averaging 15.9 ppg.  Erika Daveport is posting 12.2 ppg and a squad-high 9.1 rpg for the Golden Eagles.

Georgetown is 4-16 against Marquette and 1-8 at the Al McGuire Center.  Earlier this season, the Hoyas fell to the Golden Eagles 72-62 at home.  GU led by as many as 14, but couldn't hold off a late MU comeback.  Adomako led the way for the Blue & Gray with 21 points and six rebounds.  In the last meeting in Milwaukee, Georgetown fell 71-68.

DePaul is currently 15-7 on the season and 6-4 in BIG EAST play to sit in third place in the standings.  The Blue Demons lost a tough one on Sunday to Marquette falling 93-87 at home.  For her efforts, Maya Stovall was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week managing 10 points, nine assists and three steals in the game.  DePaul has three players averaging in double figures as Chante Stonewall leads the way with 14.0 ppg.

The Hoyas are 3-19 all-time against the Blue Demons and 2-9 on the road.  Earlier this year, Georgetown fell to DePaul 69-64.  Despite a 16-point lead, the Blue & Gray couldn't hold on as Adomako led the Blue & Gray with 24 points and eight assists. The last meeting was an 85-53 loss at Wintrust Arena in the BIG EAST semifinals a season ago.  The last meeting at McGrath-Phillips Arena was an exciting 86-85 Hoya victory during the regular season.
