WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University sailing team had a successful weekend in three different races over the weekend, including a dominant first place finish in its own John Jackson ('03) Memorial Team Race. The Hoyas had a pair of teams racing in the Charleston Spring Coed Interconference that finished third and sixth in Charleston, South Carolina, as well seeing a 10th place finish in the Navy Spring Women's Regatta in Annapolis, Maryland.
John Jackson Memorial Team Race (March 9-10; Washington, D.C.)
The Blue & Gray showcased a dominant performance in the comfort of its own home at the John Jackson Memorial Team Race at Georgetown. With light winds hampering the races on Saturday and forcing the day to end earlier than expected, Sunday went much smoother despite more light winds earlier in the day. The regatta switched to a top six for round two on Sunday, which is where the Hoyas saw its only loss of the weekend to Boston College.
Georgetown went 11-1 (91.7 percent) in the regatta, with Navy placing second with an 8-4 record (66.7 percent).
Andy Reiter (San Diego, Calif. / Point Loma),
Sean Segerblom (Costa Mesa, Calif. / Newport Harbor) and
William Logue (Cos Cob, Conn. / St. George's) served as the skippers and
Haley Shea (Rye, N.Y. / Rye Country Day),
Claire Mohun (San Francisco, Calif. / Convent of the Sacred Heart),
Rebecca Fung (Rye, N.Y. / Rye) and Carolina Teare (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands / Antilles School) served as the crews.
The John Jackson Regatta is named after John T. Jackson ('03), a member of the Georgetown sailing team who passed away in a tragic accident a few months after graduation.
Results (top 5 of 8): 1. Georgetown (11-1); 2. Navy (8-4); 3. Old Dominion (7-5); 4. Boston College (7-5); 5. Boston University (5-7)
