WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University women's tennis team was edged by St. John's 4-3 in a BIG EAST matchup on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Hoyas slip to 2-11, 1-4 BIG EAST and The Red Storm improves to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST.
GU picked up the first point of the afternoon with doubles wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The duo of
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Ordrup Gymnasium) and
Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md. / Holton Arms) defeated their opponents 6-4 while
Anna Short (Birmingham, Mich. / Cranbrook Kingswood) and partner
Elena De Santis (Avellino, Italy / Convitto Nazionale P. Colletta) defeated The Red Storm 6-3.
In singles, St. John's battled back and picked up four wins to clinch the overall point. At No. 4,
Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) defeated Olaya Solis in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 and Lynham tallied the final GU point of the day with a win by retirement 6-3, 3-0.
The Hoyas will return to the courts on Sunday, March 24 in a matchup against the Richmond Spiders. The match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and will be played at the Westhampton Courts in Richmond.
