WASHINGTON – In a pair of events over the weekend, the Georgetown University sailing team finished both races among the top 10 places. The Hoyas tied for second but fell in a sailoff in the Graham Hall Team Race, hosted by Navy, and placed seventh, one point behind the sixth-place Cornell, in the St. Mary's Women's Interconference regatta, hosted by St. Mary's.
Graham Hall Team Race (March 16-17; Annapolis, Md.)
The Blue & Gray placed third out of a strong lineup of 16 teams in the Graham Hall Team Race. For all of the racing on Saturday and the start of the competition on Sunday, northwest winds made for perfect sailing conditions and helped finish the round robin in the early afternoon on Sunday. Winds ranged from six to 22 knots throughout the weekend.
Georgetown went strong throughout the round robin with a record of 12-3 to tie for second with College of Charleston. The Hoyas fell in the sailoff after the first round concluded as a tiebreaker between the two squads.

On a breezy St. Mary's River, the women's team finished seventh out of 18 teams. In 14 races, Georgetown compiled 227 total points, one point behind Cornell. After a lengthy postponement, a wild and shifty westerly winds filled in and allowed four more races in each division, where the Blue & Gray caught up to the Big Red towards the last two races, but eventually came up short.
The A Division recorded 152 points and was led by the strong duo of
Haddon Hughes (Houston, Texas / Episcopal) and
Annabelle Ayer (Marblehead, Mass. / Middlesex). The B Division tallied 75 points and finished eight of the 14 races in the top five. It was led the dominant team of
Gwynie Dunlevy (San Francisco, Calif. / Convent of the Sacred Heart) and
Hannah Hess (Inverness, Ill. / Loyola Academy).
