BETHESDA, Md. – The Georgetown University baseball team lost its fourth-straight game, falling to Hartford 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field. With the loss, the Hoyas move to 6-18 on the season, while Hartford improves to 5-11.
Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) started on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six.
Angelo Tonas (Hillsborough, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) fired 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Jacob Grzebinski (Bellaire, Texas / Emory Weiner) only allowed one base runner in 3.0 shutout innings, striking out one.
Five different Hoyas had hits, while
Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) and
Yareb Martinez (Aldie, Va. / John Champe) were both on base twice.
Hartford did all of its damage in the top of the third as the first seven batters reached on six singles and a walk. Four runs crossed the plate to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
Kai Nelson (New York, N.Y. / Fieldston) prevented any further damage as he threw out a runner at the plate on a fly ball to left field.
The Hoyas got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs and runners on first and second, Ruedisili singled into right field to score
Nolan Matsko (Baltimore, Md. / Dulaney). A wild pitch allowed Martinez to cross the plate, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Georgetown put runners on base in each of the final two innings, bringing the tying run to the plate but could not even the score, falling 4-2.
The Hoyas will stay at home hosting Navy on Wednesday for a midweek matchup at Shirley Povich Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Georgetown will then hit the road next weekend for a three-game series at East Tennessee State University.
