BETHESDA, Md. – The Georgetown University baseball team fell in the final of its homestand, dropping a 12-3 decision to Navy on Wednesday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field. With the loss, the Hoyas move to 6-19 on the season while the Midshipmen improve to 18-9.
Carter Bosch (McLean, Va. / Potomac) started on the mound and lasted 4.0 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three.
Owen Lamon (Herndon, Va. / Oakton) struck out one in 1.1 innings of relief.
Anthony Redfern (Andover, Mass. / Phillips Andover) fired a scoreless inning with a strikeout in his collegiate debut.
Chase Walter (Winston-Salem, N.C. / Forsyth Country Day School) picked up his first career strikeout in a scoreless inning of work while
Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy / IMG Academy) had two strikeouts in his first relief appearance of the season.
Navy jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the top of the first. The Midshipmen extended their lead to 4-0 with a run in the top of the third.
Alex Gamache (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest Academy) put the Hoyas on the board with a solo home run to center leading off the bottom of the third. It was the first career home run for Gamache.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) drew a walk, advanced to second on a ground out and came around to score on consecutive wild pitches, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Navy opened the game up with four runs in the top of the fifth off of Bosch and
Angelo Tonas (Hillsborough, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep). Four more runs off of
Miller Freeman (Nashville, Tenn. / Montgomery Bell Academy) in the top of the eighth made it a 12-2 game.
Matt Stone (Westport, Conn / Staples) picked up his first career hit, a two-out double in the bottom of the eighth, but the Hoyas did not push a run across until the ninth.
Yareb Martinez (Aldie, Va. / John Champe) lined a two-out single with the bases loaded, scoring
Michael Willis (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman) to provide the final score, 12-3.
The Hoyas will hit the road this weekend for a three-game series at East Tennessee State University. Friday's series opener is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch, while Saturday's contest will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
