No. 19 Hoyas Fall at No. 9 Denver in BIG EAST Action

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's 19th-ranked men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-9 decision at No. 9 Denver in BIG EAST action on Saturday. The Hoyas fall to 7-3 overall and 0-2 in league play while the Pioneers improve to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST.

Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's) led the Hoyas with four points (2G, 2A) while Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) and Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md. / McDonogh) both added two goals and an assists. James Reilly (Berwyn, Pa. / Conestoga), Dylan Watson (Guelph, Ontario / The Hill Academy) and Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) both had a lone goal and Declan McDermott (Pleasantville, N.Y. / Pleasantville) chipped in an assist.

In goal, Owen McElroy (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood / Avon Old Farms) tallied 15 saves in the loss.

Bucaro moved into sole possession of second place all-time at Georgetown in career points with 191 (126G, 65A), passing Hoya Hall of Famer Chris Remington ('95). Carraway moved into the top-10 in career scoring on the Hilltop with 141 points (93G, 48A), passing Craig Dowd ('10) and Mike Mauboussin ('86).

Georgetown posted the first score of the game with a Bucaro goal just 1:38 into the game. Denver rallied back with four-straight points to take a 4-1 lead before the Hoyas scored two of the next three goals in the period, including one from Clark with 14 ticks remaining, to salvage a 5-3 deficit going into the second quarter.

In the second, an early Carraway goal pulled the Blue & Gray within one, down 5-4, before the Pioneers put together another 4-0 outburst to lead 9-4. Another Bucaro goal, followed by a DU response, made it a 10-5 Denver lead going into the break.

Coming out of halftime, Denver kept pace and outscored the Hoyas 2-1 in the third period to lead 12-6.

The Pioneers closed things out in the fourth quarter by tallying four of the first five goals of the stanza. Georgetown netted goals from Watson and Wittenberg in the final minutes but couldn't muster enough for the comeback attempt.

Austin French led Denver with four goals and two assists while Ethan Walker added three goals and two assists. Alex Ready had 12 saves in the win.

Georgetown continues its road trek as it travels to face Providence on Saturday, April 6.
