WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University sailing team competed in a pair of regattas this past weekend, sending a total of 20 Hoya sailors on the water to race in the Navy Spring Race, hosted by Navy, and the GW Women's Invite, hosted by George Washington. The Blue & Gray finished second in the Navy Spring Race and had three out of seven boats finish among the top five in the GW Women's Invite.
Navy Spring (April 13-14; Annapolis, Md.)
The Hoyas sailed in the Navy Spring Regatta along with 17 other teams, where light wind and foggy conditions limited the racing time. However, the racing committee was able to get 14 races in each division completed.
Following the first day of races, the standings were very tight at the top with Georgetown, Navy and Charleston all within two points of each other. With Navy in the lead at the start of day two, GU pulled ahead halfway through the racing to take the lead. Heading into the final races, the Hoyas had a nine-point lead. However, in the final few races, the Midshipmen fought back and defeated the Hoyas overall by a total of four points.
The Division A team won the division with 55 points and was led by
Sean Segerblom (Costa Mesa, Calif. / Newport Harbor) and
Rebecca Fung (Rye, N.Y. / Rye). Division B finished third with 73 points and consisted of
Andrew Person (Newport Beach, Calif. / Newport Harbor) for races 1-8,
Jack Reiter (Point Loma, Calif. / Point Loma) in races 9-14,
Lucy Beimfohr (Short Hills, N.J. / Deerfield Academy) in races 1-8 and
Claire Mohun (San Francisco, Calif. / Convent of the Sacred Heart) for races 9-14.

Georgetown had seven boats compete in the 18-boat field at the GW Women's Invite down the road in Washington, D.C. The regatta featured a deep fleet and a lot of tight racing. Sailing in the Potomac River, the winds and current were shifty. The Blue & Gray had three boats finish among the top five and five boats within the top 10.
