WASHINGTON – The first round of play was suspended as teams made their way down the back nine due to thunderstorms in the area at the 2019 BIG EAST Championship presented by Jeep at the Callawassie Island Golf Club in Callawassie, South Carolina. The Georgetown University women's golf team currently sits in third place at 22-over par.
Teams will resume first round play on Saturday morning, beginning at 8 a.m., before continuing with the regularly scheduled second round. A link to follow the live scoring will be available at GUHoyas.com.
Playing in windy conditions, all six teams finished at least 10 holes on Friday morning. The Hoyas are currently five strokes behind Xavier (+17) and four back of Seton Hall (+18). St. John's (+35) is fourth followed by Creighton (+36) and Butler (+44).
Junior
Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash. / Eastlake Senior) finished 13 holes before play was suspended and is currently tied for third overall at 4-over par. Seniors
Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J. / Kent Place) and
Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C. / Episcopal [Va.]) are both tied for sixth at 5-over par. Parsells has played 10 holes while Bogache is through 12.
Senior
Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. Andrew's) is 8-over par through 10 holes to sit in a tie for 15th place while sophomore
Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, N.C. / Pinecrest) has played 14 holes and is tied for 20th overall at 10-over par.
