WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team carded a second-round 299 and currently sits in second place at 35-over par following 36 holes of play at the 2019 BIG EAST Championship presented by Jeep at the Callawassie Island Golf Club in Callawassie, South Carolina.
Friday's first round was suspended due to inclement weather and teams wrapped up the first 18 holes on Saturday morning before playing the originally scheduled second round. At the conclusion of round one, the Hoyas sat in third place with 24-over par 312.
Xavier (+28) leads the Hoyas by seven strokes, while Seton Hall (+38) is just three shots behind the Blue & Gray. Creighton (+66), St. John's (+71) and Butler (+88) round out the rest of the field.
Senior
Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C. / Episcopal [Va.]) is GU's leader, sitting in third place overall at 6-over par. She used three birdies on the back nine of the second round to shoot a 74 after she was in fifth place with a 76 over the first 18 holes.
Senior
Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J. / Kent Place) and junior
Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash. / Eastlake Senior) are both tied for fourth at seven over par. Parsells, who turned in a 79 in round one, climbed six spots in the individual rankings with an even-par 72 in the second round. Fitzgibbons carded rounds of 75 and 76 and sat in second place after the first round.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, N.C. / Pinecrest) used a second round score of 77 to climb five spots in the rankings and sits in a tie for 13th at 15-over par. Senior
Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. Andrew's) is tied for 19th at 19-over par.
