WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team has released its 2019 schedule, as announced by Head Coach
Toby Rens on Tuesday. The Hoyas look to improve on a breakout season in 2018, posting the most wins in a campaign since 2004 with 17 and the most BIG EAST victories since 2001 with 10.
A home-heavy non-conference schedule allows Hoya fans multiple opportunities the see the Blue & Gray in action at McDonough Arena. Georgetown will host three tournaments over the course of the first four weekends before opening league play on the road.
Kicking off the 2019 campaign with the Georgetown Classic, the Hoyas welcome Central Arkansas, Central Connecticut State, Rider and Sacred Heart to the Nation's Capital the weekend of Aug. 30-31. Georgetown will face Rider and Sacred Heart on Friday before taking on CCSU and Central Arkansas on Saturday.
The following weekend, the Bulldog Invite brings Marshall, Northern Kentucky and Stony Brook to the Hilltop on Sep. 6-7. Georgetown will face the Thundering Herd on Friday before taking on NKU and the Seawolves on Saturday.
A lone road tournament takes the Blue & Gray down to Williamsburg, Virginia to participate in the William & Mary Tournament on Sep. 13-14. The Hoyas open the draw against Iona on Friday and face both UNC Greensboro and the host Tribe on Saturday.
Closing out tournament weekend play on Sep. 20-21, GU welcomes Binghamton, Florida International and Morgan State to D.C. for the Hoya Invitational. Friday's action pits Morgan State and the Binghamton against the Blue & Gray before the Hoyas wrap up the event against FIU on Saturday.
A meeting with crosstown foe Howard at home on Sunday, Sep. 22 leads into the BIG EAST-opening road trip to finish the month of September. Georgetown will play Providence on Friday, Sep. 27 before flying cross-country to take on Creighton on Sunday, Sep. 29.
October play begins as the Blue & Gray welcomes Butler and Xavier to the Hilltop on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5, respectively. A midweek trek to the Garden State has the Hoyas face Seton Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 9, followed by a three-match homestand against St. John's (Oct. 16), DePaul (Oct. 18) and Marquette (Oct. 19). Georgetown wraps the month up on the road at Xavier (Oct. 25) and Butler (Oct. 27).
November's opening weekend has Georgetown facing Villanova in a home-and-home series. The Hoyas host the Wildcats in D.C. on Friday, Nov. 1 and make the return trip to the Main Line in Pennsylvania on Sunday Nov. 3. A home weekend series against Providence (Nov. 8) and Creighton (Nov. 9) leads into a three-match road trek at Marquette (Nov. 15), DePaul (Nov. 16) and St. John's (Nov. 22) before wrapping up the regular season at home against Seton Hall on Sunday, Nov. 24.
The 2019 BIG EAST Championship will take place in Milwaukee this season, hosted by Marquette on Nov. 29-30.
