Men’s Swimming & Diving Received BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's swimming & diving team has been recognized with the 2018-19 BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award, given to the team in each sport with the highest collective grade-point average. This is the second-consecutive season that the men's squad has finished atop the BIG EAST in the classroom.
 
The Hoyas recorded a team GPA of 3.558 during the 2018-19 academic year. The Blue & Gray earned College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors each semester, ranking third in the country with a 3.57 GPA in the fall semester. The team ranked fourth overall, among 106 Division I men's programs, with a 3.55 spring GPA.
 
Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic) earned CSCAA Scholar All-American Honorable Mention recognition for the second-straight season. To qualify, a student-athlete must achieve a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at an NCAA Regional or Zone Diving qualifier.
 
The Georgetown men finished second at the 2019 BIG EAST Championships, while the women placed third. The Hoyas won six gold medals overall and set 15 program records. Georgetown had a league-high 24 student-athletes earn All-BIG EAST honors with 13 women receiving all-conference recognition in 17 events, while the men's squad saw 11 student-athletes earn accolades in 32 events. Head Coach Jack Leavitt and the Georgetown coaching staff were named the BIG EAST Men's Coaching Staff of the Year and Head Diving Coach Marc VanDyken earned BIG EAST Women's Diving Coach of the Year honors.
