No. 5 Georgetown Hosts UConn on Saturday

WASHINGTON –  The No. 5 Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the UConn Huskies on Saturday in a 1 p.m. matchup at Shaw Field.  The Hoyas are currently 4-0 on the season after a successful trip to California, while UConn is 2-2 on the year.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a pair of victories in California downing UC Irvine 1-0 on Friday and defeating UCLA 5-1 on Monday evening.
  • Sophomore Zach Riviere managed a hat trick in the UCLA win marking the first since Steve Neumann in 2013.
  • The five goals were the most in a game for the Blue & Gray since 2015.
  • Junior midfielder Paul Rothrock managed a goal and an assist in the game while junior forward Derek Dodson tallied a pair of helpers.
  • Junior defender Sean O'Hearn was credited with two assists marking his second-consecutive game with a point after scoring none in his first two years on the Hilltop.
  • Freshman Tomas Romero was credited with the win at UCLA in the net.
  • Georgetown defeated UC Irvine on a goal from junior midfielder Jacob Montes in the 86th minute, O'Hearn managed the assist.
  • Sophomore Giannis Nikopolidis took the win in the net for the Blue & Gray.
  • On Monday, O'Hearn was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Temple and UC Irvine, it marked the first weekly award of his career.
 
About the Huskies
  • UConn is ranked 28th in the CollegeSoccerNews Top-30 poll and also receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll.
  • The Huskies fell to Yale 3-0 on Wednesday evening. 
  • UConn has wins over Rider (2-0) and Rhode Island (3-1) this season as well as a 2-1 loss to Farleigh Dickinson for the 2-2 record.
  • Senior Jordan Hall has scored all six goals for the Huskies this season.  Five were assisted by classmate Dayonn Harris.
  • UConn was selected third in the American Athletic Conference Preseason Poll with Harris, junior Robin Lapert and sophomore Felix Metzler earning spots on the preseason all-conference squad.

  • The Hoyas are 10-14-4 all-time against the Huskies and 8-4-1 at home.
  • The last meeting was a 1-1 double overtime tie in Storrs during the 2017 season.
  • The last meeting on the Hilltop was a 1-0 Georgetown victory on September 10, 2016.
  • The Hoyas and Huskies will become conference foes next season as UConn rejoins the BIG EAST Conference in 2020.
