WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's golf team opened the 2019 campaign at the VCU Invitational on Monday, finishing the two-round, 36-hole day in 11th place overall with rounds of 293 and 294 for an 11-over par 587.
FIRST DAY HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
• Freshman
David Rogers excelled in his collegiate debut, firing a 3-under par 69 in the opening round.
• Rogers followed that up with an even-par 72 in the second round for a 141 total to sit tied for 20th place.
• Senior
Hardin Councill shot rounds of 75 and 73 to tie for 52nd place.
• The rest of Georgetown's lineup sits just one stroke behind each other.
• Freshman
Pieter DeGroot carded rounds of 76 and 73 for a 149 and tie for 59th.
• Senior
Eduardo Blochtein is tied for 63rd with rounds of 74 and 76 for a 150.
• Sophomore
Will O'Neill rounds out the squad tied for 65th after shooting a 151 with rounds of 75 and 76.
• Playing as an individual, senior
Taso Scilaris is tied for 47th with rounds of 75 and an even-par 72 for 147.
WHERE THE TEAM STANDS
• Virginia Tech leads the field with a 23-under par 553. James Madison (-20, 556) is second followed by Loyola Maryland (-19, 557) and host Virginia Commonwealth (-19, 557) tied for third. Old Dominion (-17, 559), Maryland (-14, 562), Richmond (-9, 567), Boston College (-8, 568) and Radford (-7, 569) are all under par after 36 holes. Rounding out the competition, George Washington (+9, 585) is 10th, followed by the Hoyas (+11, 587) and Villanova (+16, 592).
• The third and final round begins at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start.
• Georgetown is paired with George Washington and Villanova, teeing off from holes 14-17.
