No. 3 Hoyas Travel to Butler to Open BIG EAST Play

WASHINGTON –  The No. 3 Georgetown University men's soccer team will begin BIG EAST Conference play on Friday traveling to Butler University for a 7 p.m. matchup at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl.  The Hoyas are currently 5-0 on the season, while the Bulldogs sit at 3-2 for the year.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas moved up to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll this week.
  • The squad is coming off of a 4-1 victory over UConn at home on Saturday.  Over two games the Blue & Gray outscored opponents 9-2.
  • Sophomore midfielder Zach Riviere was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.  It was the first weekly honor of Riviere's career.
  • Riviere helped the Hoyas to a 2-0 week as he led the league offensively with 3.00 points per game. He started the week off with a hat trick at UCLA, leading Georgetown to a 5-1 victory on the West Coast. Georgetown finished the week with the UConn win.
  • Three Hoyas lead the squad in scoring with seven points apiece.  Riviere has three goals and an assist, while junior Derek Dodson has posted two goals and three assists.
  • Junior Paul Rothrock has seven points on one goal and five assists.  He is currently second in the nation in assists per game and fourth in total assists.
  • Georgetown is one of 10 undefeated teams in Division I and one of two in the BIG EAST Conference.
  • Butler begins a two-game road trip as the Blue & Gray travels to Louisville on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. matchup.
 
About the Bulldogs
  • Butler is 3-2 on the season with wins over Western Michigan (2-1), Evansville (2-0) and Wisconsin (1-0).
  • The squad is led by Brandon Guhl who has three goals for six points on the season.
  • Wilmer Cabrera, Jr. is second with two goals, both game winners.
  • Gabriel Gjergji has played all 468 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs with 21 saves to his credit.
  • Cabrera was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday for his game winner against Wisconsin.
 
Series with Butler
  • The Hoyas are 5-1 all-time against Butler and 2-1 on the road. 
  • Last year in Indianapolis, GU managed the 2-0 victory as Dylan Nealis and Kyle Zajec both scored for the Blue & Gray.
  • Friday marks the BIG EAST opener for both squads.
