Hoyas Open BIG EAST Play at Providence, No. 14 Creighton

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team opens BIG EAST play on the road at Providence and No. 14 Creighton this weekend. The Hoyas travel to Rhode Island to face the Friars on Friday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. before taking on the Bluejays in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday at 2 p.m. EST.

QUICK HITS
•    Georgetown is 10-4 to start the season after back-to-back tournament victories at the Colonial Classic and the Hoya Invitational.
•    Iva Vujosevic earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Hoya Invitational.
•    Elissa Barbosa and Brennan Wilhite were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
•    Closing out the nonconference schedule with a sweep over Howard, the Hoyas have now won 10 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2014-15.

ROTATION NOTES
•    Seven different Hoyas are averaging at least a kill per set after nonconference play.
•    Vujosevic leads the way with 3.66 kps, followed by Elissa Barbosa with 2.35 kps. Margo Snipe (1.73), Peyton Wilhite (1.62), Riley Wertzberger (1.60), Brennan Wilhite (1.35), and Makayla Serrett (1.00) round out the seven.
•    Four Hoyas average at least two digs a set, led by Jessica Cusi's 3.45 and followed by Vujosevic (2.98), Barbosa (2.39) and Emma Plutnicki (2.02).
•    Serrett and Brennan Wilhite are battling for the team lead in blocks, averaging 0.89 and 0.80 bps, respectively.
•    Emma Plutnicki averages 8.03 assists per set to pace the offense.
•    Vujosevic has recorded 25 service aces on the year, followed by Cusi and Plutnicki with 13 each. Barbosa and Kendall Flaharty both have 11.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
•    Georgetown is 29-16 all-time against Providence, including a pair of victories last season. The Hoyas have won six of the last eight meetings between the two programs.
•    Providence (5-8) has lost four-straight heading into Friday's match.
•    Jennifer Leitman leads the Friars with 3.335 kps, followed by Emma Nelson and Addison Root with 2.55 and 2.11 kps, respectively.
•    Georgetown is looking for its first win against Creighton in program history.
•    The Hoyas are 0-12 against the Bluejays all-time, with all dozen matches coming since CU joined the BIG EAST.
•    Creighton (7-3) is ranked No. 14 in the current AVCA Division I poll.
•    All three CU losses are to nationally ranked opponents. The Bluejays own wins over No. 12 Kentucky and No. 15 USC.
•    Five different Bluejays average at least two kills a set, including Keeley Davis (2.84), Jaela Zimmerman (2.73), Erica Kostelac (2.54), Naomi Hickman (2.19) and Megan Ballenger (2.08).
•    Creighton hosts Villanova on Friday before taking on the Hoyas.
