Georgetown to Host Bulldog Invite on the Hilltop

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team will play its second home tournament in as many weekends to open up the 2019 season, welcoming Marshall, Northern Kentucky and Stony Brook to the Hilltop for the Bulldog Invite. The Hoyas face Marshall in the tournament opener on Friday, Sept. 6 before taking on Northern Kentucky and Stony Brook on Saturday, Sept. 7.

QUICK HITS
•    Georgetown went 3-1 to open the season at the 2019 Georgetown Classic
•    The Hoyas finished as the runner-up in the tournament, falling in the de facto championship match
•    Beginning the season 3-0, it was GU's best start to a season since 2012
•    Iva Vujosevic and Makayla Serrett were both named to the All-Tournament Team
•    Vujosevic was also selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

ROTATION NOTES
•    Six different Hoyas are averaging at least a kill per set to start the 2019 season
•    Vujosevic leads the way with 4.08 kps, followed by Peyton Wilhite (1.90), Margo Snipe (1.67), Elissa Barbosa (1.64), Riley Wertzberger (1.60) and Serrett (1.29)
•    Four Hoyas average at least two digs per set, led by Vujosevic with 3.42 dps and followed by Kelly Chen (2.88), Barbosa (2.86) and Jessica Cusi (2.29)
•    Serrett is averaging an even 1.00 blocks per set with 14 total blocks in the season's first four matches
•    Emma Plutnicki averages 8.00 assists per set while Margo Pivonka and Ellie Watkins add 5.33 and 2.43 aps, respectively

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
•    Georgetown has never played Marshall, Northern Kentucky or Stony Brook before in program history
•    Marshall opened the 2019 season at the Indiana Invitational, topping UT Martin in the opener before falling to the host Hoosiers and to Santa Clara
•    Four members of the Thundering Herd average at least two kills a set, led by Ciara Debell with 4.09 kps
•    Northern Kentucky went 2-1 in its first weekend at the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational, earning wins over South Alabama and the host Mastadons while falling to Western Michigan in five sets
•    Laura Crawford leads the Norse offense with 3.75 kills per set
•    Stony Brook is looking for its first win in 2019 with season-opening losses to Iowa, James Madison, No. 22 Washington State and Hofstra
•    The Seawolves were selected to repeat as America East champions and earn a return trip to the NCAA Tournament

SIDE OUT
Following the Bulldog Invite, the Hoyas hit the road for their first action away from the friendly confines of McDonough Arena. Georgetown will take part in the Colonial Classic, hosted by William & Mary, and face Iona on Friday, Sept. 13 before going up against UNC Greensboro and the host Tribe on Saturday, Sept. 14.
