Hoyas Drop 66-57 Decision at Xavier

CINCINNATI – The Georgetown University basketball team dropped a 66-57 decision to the Xavier University Musketeers on Wednesday night in a BIG EAST matchup at the Cintas Center. The road setback pushed the Hoyas to 12-8 on the year with a 2-5 record in BIG EAST play. Xavier is now 13-6 with a 2-4 mark in league action.

ON THE RECORD
"Instead of using our speed and quickness to our advantage, we let them use their size to their advantage. When you give up, like I said before, 16 offensive rebounds - they got 20 points off that - so it's obvious that their size, they use it to their advantage and we didn't use our quickness to ours." - Head Coach Patrick Ewing

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Mac McClung was the lone Hoya in double figures, leading all players with 19 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 effort from the charity stripe.
  • Qudus Wahab, Terrell Allen and Jahvon Blair chipped in nine, eight and seven points, respectively.
  • Jamorko Pickett's 10 boards led the squad while Wahab grabbed eight boards and Jagan Mosely tied a career high with seven.
  • Mosely led the offense with four assists while Allen added three.
  • The Hoyas shot 36.8 percent (21-57) for the game while holding the Musketeers to a 37.3 performance (25-67) from the floor.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McClung opened the scoring on GU's first possession, but Xavier responded with a 15-2 run to open an 11-point lead.
  • The Hoyas climbed back to within 10 (28-18) behind a trio of 3-pointers by Blair (2) and Mosely (1).
  • A McClung three-point play made it 32-23 before a Xavier trey gave the Musketeers the 35-23 advantage at halftime.
  • Despite XU scoring first in the second half, Georgetown strung together six in a row to cut the deficit to eight (37-29).
  • Wahab scored seven-straight GU points to keep the deficit in single digits (49-40) with less than 10 minutes on the clock.
  • After the Musketeers took a 16-point lead, a pair of McClung steals spurred an 8-0 run to bring the Hoyas within eight (62-54) with 2:48 left to play.
  • Despite pulling within seven (64-57), Xavier hit its free throws down the stretch to seal the 66-57 final score.
