WASHINGTON – Despite tying the game at 64 on free throws, the Georgetown University basketball team could not hold on and fell 69-64 to the No. 16/17 Butler University Bulldogs on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena. With the setback, the Hoyas slip to 12-9 with a 2-6 mark in BIG EAST play. Butler improves to 17-4 with a 5-3 record in league action.

ON THE RECORD
"First half, we were getting stops. Our defense was fueling our offense and in the second half, it wasn't the case. "
- Head Coach Patrick Ewing on the difference between the first and second half

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Omer Yurtseven led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures with 14 points and a game-best 13 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. He added a pair of steals and one assist to the effort.
  • Mac McClung added 12 points to go along with three rebounds and a pair each of assists and steals.
  • Jagan Mosely finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, tying a career high, while being on the court for all but 32 seconds.
  • Qudus Wahab chipped in 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.
  • Terrell Allen had nine points and added a game-high seven assists to go along with a pair of steals.
  • The Hoyas outrebounded Butler 38-36 and forced 15 turnovers while committing just eight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams traded buckets and the score was knotted at 12 with just under 11 minutes to play before the Hoyas strung together six straight with Wahab contributing four to the effort, including an emphatic dunk off an Allen steal.
  • Despite Butler cutting the deficit to two, Georgetown kept its foot on the gas and tallied eight unanswered behind triples from Allen and McClung and a Mosely layup as the lead ballooned to 13 (37-24).
  • The Hoyas held on to the double-digit advantage through the remainder of the frame as another Wahab dunk gave the Blue & Gray its largest lead of the game (43-29). The Hoyas went into the break with the 43-32 lead.
  • The Hoyas got off to a slow start in the second half and the Bulldogs used an 18-3 run to take a four-point lead (50-46) in the first six minutes of action.
  • Trailing by six (58-52), Yurtseven nailed a jumper before a Mosely triple cut the deficit to one (58-57). A Butler layup pushed the lead back to three but Allen found an open Jahvon Blair who knocked down the 3-point dagger to tie the game up at 60.
  • The Bulldogs pulled ahead four and again the Hoyas had the answer behind a Mosely layup and a pair of Yurtseven free throws to tie the game at 64.
  • Butler went on to seal the 69-64 victory as Georgetown could not find another equalizer.

OF NOTE
  • Mosely's two assists give him 306 for his career and he is in sole possession of 19th place on GU's career list. He is just one away from tying Allen Iverson (307).
