NEW YORK – Down 72-71 and with 20.0 seconds left on the clock, Jagan Mosely's bounce pass went to Omer Yurtseven who went up and got the game-winning layup to complete the comeback after the Hoyas trailed St. John's by as many as 17 in the second half. On the last play, Georgetown forced a Red Storm turnover to seal the 73-72 victory in front of a raucous crowd at Madison Square Garden. With the win, the Georgetown University men's basketball team improves to 13-9 overall with a 3-6 mark in BIG EAST play. With the setback, St. John's slips to 13-10 on the year with a 2-8 mark in league action.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS

• Jahvon Blair scored a career-high 23 points, going 9-of-19 from the floor and hitting five 3-pointers, to lead all scorers. He added five assists to tie a career best while playing a full 40 minutes.
• Mosely finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists as he also played the entire game.
• Yurtseven recorded his 12th double-double of the season with 13 points and 15 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. 
• Terrell Allen and Jamorko Pickett were also in double figures with 10 points apiece, while Allen finished with five helpers and Pickett grabbed eight rebounds.
• Georgetown shot 41.3 (26-63) percent from the field while holding St. John's to 40.9 (27-66) percent.
• The Hoyas outrebounded the Red Storm 43-37.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Trailing 7-2 early, the Hoyas looked to Blair who scored the next eight points for the Blue & Gray, a jumper and a pair of 3-pointers. The Hoyas poured in 10 unanswered to lead 12-7 before the Red Storm got back in the scoring column.
• Both teams traded buckets until a 9-0 SJU run put the Hoyas behind 26-20. Terrell Allen ended the run as he drove through traffic to get the layup.
• St. John's extended its lead to 36-24 before a Mosely transition 3-pointer and free throws from Wahab and Yurtseven made the score 38-29 at the midway point.
• A Red Storm run to start the second half pushed the deficit to 50-33, but the Hoyas answered with a 12-5 run of their own, including a Mosely dunk and three-point play to make it 55-45.
• Trailing by 10 (60-50), the Blue & Gray chipped away at the lead and used buckets from Yurtseven and Blair, paired with Mosely free throws, to cut the deficit to four.
• The Hoyas tied the score at 64 following a Blair triple and a commanding Yurtseven dunk.
• The Red Storm regained a four-point lead, but Mosely nailed a triple on a Yurtseven kickout to cut it to 68-67. He again answered an SJU bucket to make it a one-point game, 70-69.
• Down 72-69, Mosely found Yurtseven for a short jumper to make it 72-71. Following a defensive stop, Mosely drove the lane and dished to Yurtseven for the go-ahead layup with just 10 seconds on the clock.
• Mosely came up with a steal on the final possession and Blair ran out the clock to preserve Georgetown's 73-72 victory.

 
OF NOTE

• Mosely's five assists give him 311 for his career and move him to 17th on GU's career list. He surpassed both Allen Iverson (307) and Jessie Sapp (308).
• Blair's five 3-pointers give him 119 for his career, surpassing Marcus Derrickson (117) on the program's all-time list. Blair's 119 triples puts him at 18th on the all-time list and just one behind Brandon Bowman's 120.
• The last time that three different Hoyas contributed five assists in a game was against Richmond on Nov. 28, 2018. Mosely was also a part of that effort.

 
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will return home to Capital One Arena for a pair of home games next week. Georgetown will tip off against Seton Hall at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5 in a game broadcast on FS1.
