Hoyas to Host Butler in 2020-21 Home Opener

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team (0-1, 0-1 BIG EAST) will host the Butler University Bulldogs (0-3, 0-2 BIG EAST) in GU's home opener on Thursday at McDonough Arena at noon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup.  The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with John Fanta and Kim Adams calling the action.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown fell to No. 24/23 DePaul in the season opener, 72-54, on December 19. It was the first game of the 2020-21 season after pausing the start of the season due to a positive COVID-19 test on November 27.
  • Two freshmen in their first collegiate games led the way as Yasmin Ott tallied 18 points and Kelsey Ransom managed 14. Classmate Jasmyn Harmon also scored eight points as Ott and Harmon combined for six 3-pointers.
  • Graduate student Taylor Baur pulled down nine boards to go along with one block.
  • The Hoyas shot 35.2 percent (19-54) but allowed 39.9 percent (25-66) shooting by DePaul.
  • GU was outrebounded 43-41 but forced 24 turnovers.
  • The Hoyas started three freshmen as well as one transfer for a new look this season.
About the Bulldogs
  • Butler is looking for its first win of the 2020-21 season.
  • The first game of the season was postponed due to a positive COVID test before the Bulldogs dropped a pair of contests to Providence and Creighton.
  • The squad lost 93-54 to No. 19 Michigan on December 9 before a positive test paused the season forcing the Bulldogs to postpone four games.
  • Thursday will be Butler's first game since that loss to Michigan.
  • Okako Adika leads the team with 16.7 ppg, while Jaia Alexander is averaging 13.0 ppg.

  • The Hoyas are 6-8 all-time against the Bulldogs and 3-4 at home.
  • Last year Georgetown lost both meetings with the Bulldogs falling 47-46 in Washington, D.C.
  • GU's last victory over Butler was a 72-42 victory on the road during the 2018-19 campaign.
  • The last home win came during the 2016-17 season as Georgetown won by a score of 83-72.

  • New for 2020-21, the BIG EAST Conference has announced a one-year deal with leading sports streaming service, FloSports, to become the digital home of BIG EAST women's basketball, bringing elite collegiate competition to a global audience. The agreement provides a platform for all women's basketball games that stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) presented by SoFi.
Fan Information
  • Earlier this season, the Georgetown Athletics Department announced that no in-person fans would be permitted through December due to COVID-19.  This is in accordance with Washington, D.C. regulations which limit the size of in-person gatherings. A determination has yet to be made on whether fans will be permitted for home games in January through March.
