Hoyas Set for No. 11/15 West Virginia in Big 12-BIG EAST Battle

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will continue its six-game homestand as it hosts No. 11/15 West Virginia on Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. and the game is part of the second annual Big 12-BIG EAST Battle. Last year, the Hoyas defeated then-No. RV/25 Oklahoma State 81-74.

  • Sunday's contest can be seen live on FS1 with Eric Collins calling the play-by-play and Steve Lavin providing analysis.
  • The game can be heard locally on 106.7 The Fan as well as SiriusXM 389 and Radio.com with Rich Chvotkin in his 47th season on the call.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Sunday with a 1-1 record after falling 78-71 to Navy on Tuesday night at McDonough Arena.
  • Jahvon Blair and Jamorko Pickett both had 17 points and six rebounds to lead the Hoyas.
  • Qudus Wahab added 16 points with seven boards and Jalen Harris chipped in 12 points to go with seven assists.
  • Through two games, Blair leads the Hoyas in scoring with 20.0 ppg, while Wahab is averaging 14.0 ppg and shooting .684 (13-19) from the floor. Pickett (13.5 ppg) and Donald Carey (10.5 ppg) round out those in double figures.
  • Wahab leads GU on the boards with 9.5 rpg, while Blair and Pickett are each bringing down 7.0 rpg. Jalen Harris has a team-high 13 assists through the first two games.
 
SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA
  • West Virginia comes in ranked 11th in the AP Poll. The Mountaineers are 3-1 and coming off a close 87-82 loss to No. 1 Gonzaga on Wednesday.
  • WVU is averaging 77.3 ppg, while allowing 72.0 ppg. On the glass, the Mountaineers are pulling down 41.8 rpg.
  • Derek Culver is averaging a double-double with 15.8 ppg and 11.3 rpg and has a team-high seven blocks.
  • Miles McBride (14.8 ppg), Taz Sherman (11.8) and Sean McNeil (11.0) round out those in double figures, while McBride paces the offense with 3.8 apg.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • The former BIG EAST foes will meet for the 53rd time with the Blue & Gray holding a 27-25 lead in the series.
  • The Hoyas and Mountaineers last met in the first round of the 2014 NIT at McDonough Arena. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera had a season-high 32 points and 10 rebounds while Markel Starks added 14 points, a career-high seven rebounds and seven assists.
 
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will remain home to play their final nonconference game of the calendar year, hosting Coppin State at McDonough Arena on Tuesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on FS1.
