THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The Georgetown University baseball team dropped a 6-3 decision in the series finale to Navy on Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site matchup at Finch Field. With the loss, the Hoyas close the opening weekend of the season with a 1-2 record, while the Midshipmen improve to 2-1.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Jack Weeks made the start on the mound and went 5.0 innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits, while striking out one.
- Carter Cousins struck out two in 1.2 innings of relief, and Miller Freeman and Jacob Grzebinski each fired a scoreless inning.
- AJ Lotsis led the offense with two hits, including a home run, and was on base three times with a walk and scored two runs.
- Freddy Achecar III had a hit and a walk and drove in a pair of runs.
- Eddie McCabe was on base three times via a trio of walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Navy opened the scoring in the top of the third inning as a pair of Hoya errors led to an unearned run.
- The score remained 1-0 until Lotsis tied the game with a solo home run, his third of the weekend, over the right-center field fence.
- The Midshipmen responded quickly with a grand slam in the top of the sixth and then a solo homer in the seventh to take a 6-1 lead.
- The Hoyas answered back in the bottom of the eighth as the first four batters reached. A single, walk and error loaded the bases before Achecar delivered a two-run single into center field to cut the deficit to 6-3.
- The Hoyas brought the tying run to the plate, but could not do any further damage.
