ARLINGTON, Va. – The Georgetown University baseball team nearly doubled George Washington in hits, but fell 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Barcroft Park. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 1-3 on the season while the Colonials improve to 2-1.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Carson Frye made his first career start on the mound and went 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three.
- Michael Willis allowed a run with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Carter Cousins fired 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and Miller Freeman struck out the only batter he faced.
- Yareb Martinez led the Hoya offense with a pair of hits and was on base three times with a walk.
- Georgetown out-hit GW 7-4, but stranded nine runners on base.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Colonials took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings.
- The Hoyas got a run back in the top of the fourth as Martinez lined a two-out single to score AJ Lotsis.
- GW extended its lead to 3-1 in the fifth.
- Three-straight singles loaded the bases for the Hoyas in the seventh with nobody out, but they only scored one run on a sacrifice fly by Eddie McCabe to cut the deficit to 3-2.
- GU got the tying run on base in the ninth, but could not even the score.
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas return to the state of North Carolina for a three-game series at Davidson this weekend. First pitch for the series opener is set for 6 p.m. on Friday evening. It was serve as Georgetown's annual Dad's Weekend as the team's dads will make the trip.
