Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Georgetown Falls Short to Providence

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown men's basketball team suffered a late scoring drought to drop a 73-63 decision to Providence on Wednesday evening at Capital One Arena. With the setback, the Hoyas slip to 15-11 with a 5-8 record in BIG EAST action. The Friars improve to 15-12 with an 8-6 mark in league play.

ON THE RECORD
"It was tough - it was very tough. To me, we just ran out of steam, ran out of energy, ran out of effort. All the things that we had been doing great - those guys had been logging some heavy minutes - tonight, it just took its toll." - Head Coach Patrick Ewing

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jahvon Blair led the Hoyas with a game-high 20 points while also grabbing six rebounds.
  • Jamorko Pickett recorded his second double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
  • Terrell Allen finished with 16 points.
  • Georgetown shot 38.6 (17-44) from the field and outrebounded Providence 33-32.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hoyas started off on a tear, scoring nine unanswered behind five points from Blair and a bucket each from Pickett and Allen.
  • The Friars wouldn't give up and eventually took a 16-15 lead. The game went back and forth and with the game knotted at 19, PC and GU traded free throws and the Hoyas took a 25-20 lead.
  • Providence connected from downtown to take another one-point lead (28-27) but the Hoyas closed the half on a 7-2 run capped by a Blair triple with seven seconds remaining.
  • With the lead thinned to one (40-39), the Blue & Gray staged a 9-4 run sparked by Pickett's conventional three-point play and featuring buckets from Blair and Allen to move ahead 49-43 with 13:27 on the clock.
  • The Hoyas hit a cold spell but free throws kept GU within seven (63-56) with 4:32 left in regulation.
  • An Allen 3-pointer followed by a Blair jumper kept it at a two-possession game (68-63), but PC free throws down the stretch provided the 73-63 final score.

OF NOTE
  • Mosely's two assists give him 326 for his career, good for 15th place all-time at Georgetown. He is just one behind Reggie Williams (327).
  • Blair's pair of 3-pointers gives him 129 for his career, moving him ahead of Hollis Thompson (128) and into 14th place on GU's career list.
