WASHINGTON – The No. 19/20 Georgetown University women's lacrosse team battled back in the second half to pick up the 12-10 victory over the Drexel University Dragons on Saturday afternoon at Vidas Field in Philadelphia. With the victory, the Hoyas improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Dragons dropped to 1-2 overall.
How it Happened
- Georgetown opened the game on a 3-0 run over the first two minutes of action as senior captain Michaela Bruno notched a pair of scores, and fellow captain Natalia Lynch added an unassisted tally at 28:10.
- Drexel answered with a pair of its own, but Bruno managed her third of the afternoon at 16:15 to make it 4-2 in favor of the Blue & Gray.
- The Dragons tallied a man-up goal at 11:52, however, Lynch found the back of the cage on the next possession as GU managed to keep Drexel at bay.
- Drexel scored one more in the half, while Bruno and Lynch each scored another to make it 7-4 heading into the break. The senior duo combined for all seven of Georgetown's goals to that point.
- The Dragons exploded into the second half with a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the game 8-7 at the 24:13 mark.
- Georgetown regrouped and answered as sophomore midfielder Annabelle Albert tallied the tying goal and sophomore attacker Celia Walsh took the pass from senior Emily Ehle to put the Hoyas back on top 9-8.
- Drexel tied it back up, but this time it was Georgetown's chance to make an impact as the Blue & Gray staged a 3-0 run over a three minute span sparked by an unassisted goal from sophomore midfielder Izzy Ross at 14:31.
- This was followed by scores from Lynch and junior midfielder Mary Pagano to put GU in the lead with the 12-9 advantage.
- Drexel would only score one more as the Blue & Gray held on for the 12-10 victory.
Of Note
- Bruno led the way with five points on four goals and an assist, while Lynch added four goals as well as a squad-best seven draw controls.
- Walsh managed a goal and an assist for two points in the game.
- Georgetown outshot Drexel 32-22 and pulled in 14 draw controls to Drexel's 10.
- GU forced 16 turnovers, and committed 11 in the contest.
- In the cage, senior Michaeline DiNardo was awarded the victory with seven saves on the afternoon. Zoe Bennett took the loss with 13 saves for the game.
