WASHINGTON –  The Georgetown University women's tennis team improved to (2-6, 1-0 BIG EAST) after Sunday morning's 5-2 win at the expense of Howard (0-4) at the Junior Tennis Championship Center. 

During doubles competition, all three of the Georgetown duos showed well to give the Hoyas the doubles point. Sofie Moenster and Chloe Bendetti defeated Aria Ragas and Kendall Addison 6-0 and GU's duo of Elena De Santis and Agata Mikos also defeated Howard's Dominique Jackson and Kourtni Stewart 6-0. Olivia Ashton and Anna Short edged out Yemisi Ifederu and Sloane Williams 6-2 to get the sweep in doubles play. 

In singles play, freshmen Agata Mikos and Olivia Ashton continue to stack up wins in their rookie season. Mikos defeated Sloane Williams 6-2 in the first set and fought her way to win in straight sets after winning the second set 7-6. Ashton made quick work of Alexandra Blackwell on court three, winning 6-1, 6-0.  

Elena De Santis got Georgetown's fourth point and match clincher after coming back to defeat Yemisi Ifederu in the final set, 4-6, 6-2, 10-3. Freshman Carmen Aizpurua picked up her first win of the season, downing Emnet Simunyola, 6-3, 6-2 to give GU the 5-2 win. 

The Hoyas will travel to Richmond on Saturday, Feb. 29 at noon.
