MILWAUKEE – The Georgetown University men's basketball team dropped a 93-72 decision at Marquette on Wednesday night in a BIG EAST Conference game at Fiserv Forum. With the setback, the Hoyas drop to 15-13 with a 5-10 record in BIG EAST action. The Golden Eagles improve to 18-9 with an 8-7 mark in league play.
ON THE RECORD
"My guys fought, they fought hard. But when your two best players are not there, it's hard to generate offense. My guys didn't give up."
- Head Coach
Patrick Ewing
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Jagan Mosely led the Hoyas with 19 points, finishing 5-of-10 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
- Jahvon Blair finished with 18 points, hitting four shots from beyond the arc, and Jamorko Pickett rounded those in double figures with 12 points.
- Pickett and Mosely grabbed six rebounds apiece, while Blair and Terrell Allen each dished out four assists.
- The Hoyas shot 41.9 (26-62) percent from the field, including 46.7 (7-15) percent from downtown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite a quick start from Marquette, Georgetown cut it to three (7-4) early following back-to-back jumpers from Allen.
- Marquette led by as many as 20 (38-18) in the first but the Hoyas chipped away late to close the half on a 14-5 run sparked by a Pickett free throw, followed by a pair from Mosely and capped with a conventional three-point play from Mosely. The guard trio of Mosely, Allen and Blair contributed 10 points to the run.
- Early in the second, Pickett tallied five straight behind a driving layup where he drew the foul and sunk his free throw followed by another bucket to cut the deficit to 10.
- However, MU staged an 8-0 run before a Blair triple ended the run but the Golden Eagles poured in the points eventually winning 93-72 at the final whistle.
OF NOTE
- Mosely's three assists give him 331 for his career, placing him 14th all-time at Georgetown.
- Blair's four 3-pointers gives him 134 for his career, which is good for 14th place on GU's career list.
