Georgetown Travels to Butler and Xavier This Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will hit the road this weekend traveling to Butler University on Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Bulldogs at Hinkle Fieldhouse.  On Sunday, GU will face Xavier at Cintas Center for a 2 p.m. contest.  Both games will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas (4-18, 1-10 BIG EAST) are coming off of a heartbreaking 74-68 loss to St. John's on Sunday at McDonough.  GU led by as much as seven but could not pull out the victory.
  • Four Hoyas finished in double figures as graduate student Taylor Barnes led the way with 22 points and five rebounds.
  • Seniors Marvellous Osagie-Erese and Anita Kelava added 12 points each and graduate student Brianna Jones rounded the group out with 10 points to her credit.
  • Kelava pulled in 14 rebounds for the Hoyas to tie with her career-high.
  • Georgetown shot 40 percent from the field hitting 25-of-63 shots while the Red Storm shot 47 percent hitting 26-of-55.
  • The Blue & Gray was outrebounded by St. John's 36-34 and forced 10 turnovers while committing nine.
  • In the first game of the weekend, the Hoyas fell to Seton Hall by a score of 61-47.
  • Barnes leads the team with 12.4 ppg as the lone Hoya averaging in double figures.    
  • Kelava has been tough on the glass averaging 7.9 rpg.
 
About the Bulldogs
  • Butler is 15-6 on the season and 7-3 in BIG EAST play.
  • Last time out, the squad defeated league travel partner Xavier 63-61 at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Friday evening.
  • Kristen Spolyar leads the squad with 19.2 ppg, while Tenley Dowell follows with 12.0 ppg as BU's two in double figures.
 
Butler Series
  • The Hoyas are 6-7 against Butler and 3-3 on the road. 
  • Earlier this season, Georgetown lost at McDonough Arena by a score of 47-46.
  • GU trailed by as much as 12 in the third quarter and came all the way back to lead by one in the fourth before falling.
  • Barnes led the way for the Hoyas with 16 points and Kelava added eight points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Jones scored seven and managed six rebounds along with a team-high five assists.
  • The last meeting in Indianapolis was a 72-42 Hoya victory a season ago.
 
About the Musketeers
  • Xavier is 2-19 on the season and 1-9 in league play.
  • The long BIG EAST win came against the Hoyas earlier this year.
  • The Musketeers' other victory was a 70-63 decision over Utah to begin the 2019-20 campaign.                                        
 
Xavier Series
  • The Hoyas are 9-7 all-time against the Musketeers and 3-4 on the road.
  • In the first meeting this year, the Blue & Gray last to Xavier 85-64 at home.
  • Sophomore Nikola Kovacikova led the way for the Hoyas with 14 points, while Jones added 13 as the two Hoyas notching double digits.
  • The last meeting at Cintas Center was a 67-64 GU victory last year.
