WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team opens the 2020 BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep on Wednesday evening when the eighth-seeded Hoyas take on #9 St. John's in first round action. Tipoff at Madison Square Garden is set for 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
- Despite a big second-half effort, the Georgetown University men's basketball team fell just short against the No. 14/12 Villanova Wildcats in the regular season finale on Saturday at Capital One Arena.
- Jamorko Pickett led the Hoyas with 20 points, marking his first 20-point effort of the season.
- Terrell Allen managed 17 points along with a squad-best four assists, and Jagan Mosely rounded out those in double figures with 13 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.
- Qudus Wahab scored nine points and pulled down eight rebounds to tie Mosely.
- Georgetown shot 46.0 (27-59) percent from the field and had 12 assists on 27 made field goals.
- The Blue & Gray outrebounded the Wildcats 31-30.
ABOUT THE HOYAS
- Omer Yurtseven leads the Hoyas (15-16 overall, 5-13 BIG EAST) in both scoring (15.8 ppg) and rebounding (10.0 rpg), both of which rank among the top 10 in the BIG EAST. He is one of just three players in the BIG EAST to be averaging a double-double.
- In league play, five Hoyas averaged double figures with Mac McClung's 16.0 ppg leading the way. Jahvon Blair and Yurtseven both averaged 13.2 ppg, followed by Allen (11.7) and Picket (11.3).
- Blair is currently 12th all-time in program history with 142 career 3-pointers. Mosely has 348 career assists which ranks 14th on GU's career list.
- Yurtseven has grabbed 250 rebounds on the season, which is 25th on Georgetown's single-season list.
GEORGETOWN IN THE BIG EAST TOURNAMENT
- Georgetown is 53-33 all-time at the BIG EAST Tournament and the Hoyas are 5-3 against St. John's, but have lost the last three straight, including back-to-back setbacks in 2017 and 2018. GU's 86 games played and 53 wins are both the most in BIG EAST Tournament history.
- The Hoyas are 5-5 as the eighth seed in the tournament, including the 2018 matchup with the Red Storm.
- The Blue & Gray is 6-2 all-time against the ninth seed.
- Per the Elias Sports Bureau, Patrick Ewing is one of four men who participated in the BIG EAST Tournament as both a player and as a head coach. The others to do that were Chris Mullin, GU Assistant Coach Louis Orr and Seton Hall Head Coach Kevin Willard.
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
- St. John's enters Wednesday's game with a 16-15 record and a matching 5-13 mark in conference action.
- The Red Storm averages 74.6 ppg, while allowing opponents to score just 71.9 ppg.
- LJ Figueroa leads four SJU players scoring in double figures with 14.3 ppg. Mustapha Heron is right behind him at 13.8 ppg.
- Julian Champagnie leads the Red Storm on the glass with 6.5 rpg, while Rasheem Dunn and Nick Rutherford dish out 3.3 and 3.2 apg, respectively.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
- Wednesday will be the 116th all-time meeting between the longtime BIG EAST rivals with the Red Storm holding a 59-56 series advantage. The Hoyas have won three straight dating back to last season.
- Georgetown swept the season series from St. John's with an 87-66 win at Capital One Arena on Jan. 8 before overcoming a 17-point deficit in the second half for a 73-72 victory at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 2
- In GU's win in the Nation's Capital, Mac McClung led five Hoyas in double figures with 24 points, while Jamorko Pickett poured in 18 points and tallied a career-high 11 rebounds for his first career double-double. Terrell Allen and Jagan Mosely each managed 16 points, while Allen had a team-best five steals and Mosely finished with seven assists. Omer Yurtseven recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
- In the win at MSG, Blair scored a then-career-high 23 points to lead all scorers, hitting five 3-pointers, while playing a full 40 minutes. Mosely finished with 16 points as he also played the entire game. Yurtseven recorded his 12th double-double of the season with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Allen and Pickett chipped in 10 points apiece.
- Patrick Ewing is 4-3 in his coaching career against St. John's after going 8-4 versus the Red Storm as a player.
