Hoyas Down Colonials 21-6

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team cruised to the 21-6 victory over the George Washington Colonials Wednesday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Athletics Complex.  The Hoyas scored early and often to improve to 4-2 on the season, while GW dropped to 0-6 for the year.

Sounds of the Game
  • "I was pleased to get contributions from so many different players today.  They practice hard every day and it was nice to see them rewarded on the field for their efforts. All season, we've stressed continuing compete and I really thought we did that today so I was happy with our overall effort." – Head Coach Ricky Fried

How it Happened
  • Georgetown dominated possession early on as senior captain Michaela Bruno scored a free position goal in the first minutes sparking a 6-0 GU run with goals from sophomores Celia Walsh, Annabelle Albert and Ali Diamond as well as seniors Emily Ehle and Natalia Lynch.
  • The Colonials had a quick outlet to a goal at the 16-minute mark, but Lynch curled to the left and found the back of the cage followed by another score from Ehle.
  • As the game settled in, George Washington scored three quick goals but it was Lynch again who found the answer with a spin move and a falling shot to make it 9-4.
  • In the final minute of the first half, Ehle connected on the free position goal and Bruno had the goal fighting through the defense to make it 11-4 at the break.
  • Diamond, Lynch and Ehle opened the scoring in the second half to make it a 10-goal lead just four minutes in.
  • Diamond followed up the run with her third score of the game to force a GW timeout.
  • It was then Bruno's turn with back-to-back goals as the Hoyas were buzzing.
  • Lynch, junior Anna Farley and sophomore Izzy Ross all scored goals.
  •  A goal by Albert was sandwiched between a pair of Colonial scores making the final 21-6.

Of Note
  • Lynch led the way with five goals, while Bruno and Ehle each tallied four goals and two assists apiece.
  • Diamond posted three goals and a team-best three assists for six points in the game.
  • GU outshot the Colonials 45-20 and forced eight turnovers while committing five.
  • Georgetown held a 19-10 advantage in draw controls, as Lynch and sophomore Jordyn Sabourin both led the way with nine each.
  • In the cage, senior Micheline DiNardo and freshmen Emily Gaven and Emma Spraggins combined for 11 saves as DiNardo was awarded the victory.
