Baseball Downs UIC 12-4

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Anthony Redfern picked up his first win of the season and AJ Lotsis was on base all six plate appearances as the Georgetown University baseball team defeated UIC 12-4 on Sunday as part of the Snowbird Baseball Classic at South Charlotte Regional Park. With the win, the Hoyas snap a five-game losing streak and improve to 4-11, while the Flames fall to 3-12.
 
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Redfern started on the mound and went 5.1 strong innings to pick up the win. He struck out six while allowing three runs with just one earned.
  • Chase Walter fired 2.1 innings of relief, allowing just one run with four strikeouts. Carson Frye struck out two in an inning and Jacob Grzebinski struck out the only batter he faced.  
  • Lotsis led the GU offense as he reached base all six times, finishing with four hits, three runs scored and two RBIs.
  • John Simourian had two hits and scored three times, while Eddie McCabe also had two hits to go along with two RBIs.
  • Tony Barreca had two hits and scored two runs, while Yareb Martinez had a pair of hits including a double.
  • The Hoyas out-hit UIC 14-6 on the day while also drawing seven walks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UIC opened the scoring with three runs, one earned, in the bottom of the second.
  • The Hoyas answered right back in the top of the third, scoring four times to take a 4-3 lead. Lotsis drove in a run with a single before two more runs scored on a couple of errors and another on a wild pitch.
  • Simourian laid down a perfect bunt single in the top of the fourth to score a run before McCabe delivered a two-run single to give GU a 7-3 lead.
  • Patrick DeSalvo dropped down another safety squeeze in the fifth for an RBI. After another error scored a run, Lotsis drove in a run with his second RBI single. A wild pitch brought in Simourian to extend the lead to 12-3.
  • The Flames scored a run in the eighth to provide the final score.
