WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's tennis team fell to 2-7, 1-0 BIG EAST after Friday's nail-biter against the Temple Owls (6-4). Olivia Ashton was impressive once again, picking up wins during doubles and singles play.
The Hoyas jumped out to a strong start after taking the doubles point behind Anna Short and Ashton 6-4 win over Stefaniya Surikova and Oleksandra Doroshenko (Temple). GU saw freshman duo Agata Mikos and Carmen Aizpurua edge out Rine Nozaki and Ruoyu Chen (Temple) 6-4 to take 1-0 lead into singles play.
During singles competition, Sophie Moenster secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Surikova (Temple) on court one. Ashton got the job done for the Hoyas on court three, defeating Nozaki (Temple), 6-0, 6-0. GU could not capitalize and pick up their fourth point as Chloe Bendetti was defeated in her final set to Chen (Temple), 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 and Aizpurua, was downed in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 by Yining Tian (Temple).
The Hoyas will see BIG EAST foes Creighton and Providence at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. GU will face the Bluejays on Tuesday, March 10 and the Friars on Thursday, March 12.
