Women’s Basketball Announces 2020-21 Newcomers

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Women's Basketball Coach James Howard finalized the 2020-21 roster announcing eight newcomers to the Hilltop this season.  The group will join the Hoyas in Howard's fourth season at the helm.  They will join returners as well as transfer Jillian Archer who sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.

At Ole Miss: Played in 30 games, making 19 starts ... Averaged 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game ... Scored a career-high 23 points at Missouri ... Scored 13 points and recorded a career-high nine rebounds at Vanderbilt ... Scored 16 points and recorded a career-high eight assists vs. Missouri ... Scored double digit points 13 times ... Led Ole Miss in scoring five times, rebounding six times, and in assists eight times.
 
Prior to Georgetown: The No. 1 ranked player in Mississippi and  No. 81 nationally by MaxPreps ... Averaged 19.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 6.9 apg, 5.5 spg her senior year ... Led Pearl to a 32-1 record and a 6A State Championship in her final season ... Was the 6A State Championship Game MVP ... A member of the 2019 First-Team USA Today All-USA Mississippi Girls Basketball Team ... Three-time all-state, four-time all-district, four-time all-area, three-time all-region, four-time all-metro ... A two-time selection to the Dandy Dozen ... The two-time District MVP ... Member of the North vs. South All-Star team ... Six-time Clarion Ledger Player of the Week ... Played in the Mississippi vs. Alabama All-Star Game ... Also played two years of varsity volleyball … Father Corey Bolden was a student-athlete at Wesley College.
 
Howard on Alexander: Jayla has to sit out due to NCAA transfer requirements, but will give us a boost when she becomes eligible.  Jayla is a versatile player that can play the one, two and three positions.  She will bring a scorer's mentality to the Hilltop.  Jayla is a competitor and a winner, her passion and commitment will make our program stronger.

At Princeton: Appeared in 69 games with 29 starts to her credit including 27 her senior year … Voted team co-captain for the 2019-20 campaign … Averaged 6.9 ppg and 6.1 rpg in her final season with the Tigers … Tallied 52 career blocks and 49 steals … Scored a career-high 15 points at Penn her final season, had a career-best 13 boards in the same contest … Missed her freshman season due to injury … Team went to two NCAA Tournaments as well as making a WNIT run as she played a crucial role in the two NCAA runs … The Tigers were 26-1 and 14-0 in the Ivy League prior to COVID-19 ending the 2019-20 campaign.
 
Prior to Georgetown: 2016 Gatorade Player of the Year, American Family Insurance USA Today/All USA Player of the Year and McDonald's All-American nominee … Finished as the school's all-time leader in rebounds (694), blocks (233), double-doubles, triple doubles despite missing junior season because of an ACL injury … Was a two-time captain … Scored 1,268 career points and finished with averages of 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game …  Missouri Basketball Coaches' Association Class 4, St. Louis Post Dispatch, Metro League Conference Player of the Year following senior season … 2014 All-State, All-Conference, All-District first teams as well as All-Metro third team … All-Conference and All-District team as a freshman … Team was the 2015 and 2016 Missouri State Class Four Runner-Up during Baur's time along with four straight district championships, three consecutive league championships … Brother, Trey played baseball at Cornell … Father, Turner, played football at Stanford from 1987-92 and then played for the New England Patriots in 1992 … Grandfather, Tee, played soccer at North Carolina from 1964-68 ... Coach Howard on Baur: Taylor will make an immediate impact for us.  She can play both post positions on both ends of the floor and she brings a toughness and competitive spirit to practice and games.  Her leadership and winner's mentality will lead us on and off the court.

Howard on Davis: Sha'nia has the ability to make everyone around her better.  She has great court vision, can score the ball in a variety of ways and brings toughness and a competitive spirit.  Bottom line, Sha'nia brings a winning mentality to the Hoya family.

Prior to Georgetown: A four-year starter at Rye High School serving as captain her final two seasons … A McDonald's All-American Nominee and a New York Gatorade Player of the Year Nominee in 2019-20 … A three-time all-league and all-section honoree … Earned All-State honors as a sophomore, junior and senior … The Section 1 Class A MVP as a sophomore … Named the Rye Rotary Tournament MVP all four years and league MVP as a senior … Team won the Section 1 Class A Championship in 2017-18 and the Class A League Championship in 2019-20 … Scored 1,000 career points … Averaged 19.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.0 spg and 3.0 apg … Played EYBL with the Philadelphia Belles … On the Isabel Costa All-Academic Team as a junior and won the Con Edison Westchester Scholastic Sports Award Winner in 2020 … A member of the National Honor Society and the High Honor Roll … Student Council Secretary and President … Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse President … Also a member of Be the Change, Cancer Awareness Club and the RyeAct Coalition.
 
Howard on Flaherty: Teaghan is a preferred walk-on who is a big time shooter.  Her range will really stretch the defense.

Prior to Georgetown: A four-year starter and two-year captain in high school … Earned All Mid-State and Williamson County Female Athlete of the year as well as Williamson County Female Basketball Player of the Year as a junior … A three-time all-district selection … Averages 18.0 ppg to go along with 5.6 rpg … Also played volleyball and participates in track & field … Plays AAU with Team B. Wright … Plays the piano.
 
Coach Howard on Harmon: Jazmyn will bring great versatility to the guard position. She is a very physical guard that plays well off the dribble. She fits into our defensive philosophy. She is very explosive, and can stretch the floor from the 3-point line.

Prior to Georgetown: A second team all-state honoree as a senior … Averaged 14.0 ppg to go along with five assists, two steals and two rebounds per game.  Squad won a pair of state championships in its respective divisions … Earned four star rankings from ProspectsNation and was a three star by HoopGirlz as the 15th ranked point guard in her class … Sprinter on the track & field team earning MVP as a freshman and also competing in USA Trials … Member of the National Honor Society.
 
Coach Howard on Ott: The commitment Yasmin has shown to improve herself as a player has been a joy to watch.  She is a bright student with a tremendous passion for the game of basketball, and we welcome that here at Georgetown University.  She is skilled, fast, athletic and can score from all three areas of the floor.  I look forward to coaching such a promising talent.

Coach Howard on Ransom: Kelsey is a crafty lead guard that creates opportunities for her fellow teammates. She can finish at the rim off of penetration. She is a triple-threat player that can score from the arc and in the mid-range game. She has a very high basketball IQ and handles pressure very well. She is a very good defensive player that fits very well into our defensive philosophy.

At Southern Idaho: Was the team's second leading scorer averaging 11.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg as a freshman … Started all of the games the second half of the season.
 
Prior to Georgetown: A three-year starter at Minico serving as captain her senior season … The Times-News Big School Girls Basketball Player of the Year as well as the 2019 Magic Valley Player of the Year … Averaged 16.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 5.0 spg … Team appeared in four-straight state tournaments … Also a member of the track & field team winning the 200m state title and setting the Minico record with a 26.18 … Played volleyball … Suffered a major injury as a junior.
 
Howard on Stimpson: Taylia will bring versatility to the guard position.  Her size and skill set will allow her to score from all three levels.  She is a tough, competitive, coachable player and truly someone any coach would want on their team.  I expect her to make an immediate impact.
