WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team announced the addition of five newcomers in its Class of 2024, as announced by Head Coach
David Heller on Monday. The five new players, all freshmen, will join 14 returners for the Hoyas during the upcoming season.
"These five young women are bringing in a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game to the Hilltop," Heller said. "They come from strong programs - both club and high school - and will add a lot of competition in the gym. This group will be instrumental in getting us to accomplish several goals the team has set over the next few years. Ruth, Abby, Lydia, Chanelle and Gabby all bring the enthusiasm and dedication to help us get back to the BIG EAST Championship Tournament."
Ruth Kayongo

Prior to Georgetown: Earned two varsity letters at Bishop Alemany … Named team's Most Improved Player as a junior in 2018 … Tabbed 2018 First Team All-Mission League … Selected as Alemany's Team Most Valuable Player as a senior is 2019 … Honored as the 2019 Sunshine League Most Valuable Player and 2019 First Team All-Sunshine League … Recognized with the 2020 Alemany High School Athlete of the Year Award … Led Alemany to its first regular season title since 1983 as a junior in 2018 … Played club volleyball for Supernova All Stars … Finished in first place in 18s AAU West Coast Championships in 2019.
Coach Heller: "I am very excited about Ruth! She brings in experience at both pin positions and has a great contact point. She also adds some more height to our front row with a great volleyball I.Q. and work ethic. Her athleticism will help us score in the Big East, especially out of system."
Abby Lutterloh

Prior to Georgetown: Played two years of varsity volleyball at Santa Margarita … Played club for Laguna Beach Volleyball Club (2013-19) and A4 Volleyball Club (2019-20) … Led LBVC to a third place finish at SCVA in 2018-19 and A4 VBC to a second place showing in 2019-20.
Coach Heller: "Abby is another great ball control player from Southern California. She immediately adds strength in serve receive and communication on the court. Her strength and agility will help us improve upon our floor defense and challenge our attackers in practice."
Lydia Schubert

Prior to Georgetown: Earned four letters at Hilton Head High School, starting her final two years and serving as a senior captain … Named HHIHS Offensive Player of the Year 2019 … Selected to 2019 South Carolina 5A/4A All-star Team … 2019 Region 7 4A all region player … 2018 Hilton Head Island 'Seahawk Award' … Won three-straight region championships in 2017-19 … Played club for Club Savannah Volleyball … Older sister, Emily, played basketball at Duke.
Coach Heller: "Lydia comes from a very athletic family. Her height will give us a great presence at the net. She is a very quick learner and has experience playing on both pins as well. I'm really excited to have her blocking to help slow down some of the big attackers in our conference."
Chanelle Smith

Prior to Georgetown: Earned three varsity letters at Atholton … Led the Raiders to a 3A Maryland state championship in 2018 … Won county and regional championships in 2017 and 2018 … Named first team all-county in 2018 and 2019.
Coach Heller: "Chanelle is a very strong middle blocker from nearby Maryland. She comes from a great club program and she keeps improving every time I get to see her play. She will make a big impact on our middle offense and we will look to push our tempo with her as an attacker."
Gabby Williams
Freshman / 6-0 / Middle Blocker
Las Vegas, Nev. / Bishop Gorman
Club: BBC Volleyball
Prior to Georgetown: Played club for BBC Volleyball … Team placed first in Gold Bracket at both the 2017 AAU West Coast Championships and 2018 AAU West Coast Championships … Father, Jerome, played basketball at Georgetown (1994-96) before embarking on a nine-year career in the NBA.
Coach Heller: "Coming in from Las Vegas, Gabby adds some depth to our middle and opposite positions. She brings in a great physicality and fast arm that will be great to add to our gym. Gabby brings the ability to play in multiple areas that will help the team progress."
