Sailing Advances to Coed ACC Finals

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University sailing team easily advanced to the ACC coed finals later this month, finishing third in the ACC Coed Round 1B over the weekend. With 230 points, the Hoyas finished just one-point behind second-place George Washington. The Hoyas also competed in the Oyster Bowl, placing fifth with 244 points in the seven-team field.

ON THE RECORD
"The Coed ACC Round 1 - the goal of the regatta is to finish in the top nine and move to the next round. We sailed well in A division but had our struggles in B division. Once we weren't worried about finishing in the top nine, we tried different combinations in B division and we are still searching for our best combination of sailors." - Head Coach Michael J. Callahan on the Coed ACC

  • Only faltering once and tallying double digits, the Blue & Gray managed eight podium finishes, including a quintet of wins.
  • The B division had a rougher time on the course, and a change of lineup helped with five top-five finishes, including a win, as the Hoyas tallied 151 points.

  • B Division (9th of 18) Lineup: Wills Cook (1-3, 16-17) and Mariner Fagan (4-15) [skippers] with Grace Flanagan (1-3, 16-17) and Jack Hogan (4-15) [crews]

  • In the B division, the Blue & Gray was able to weather some early race setbacks but closed on a quartet of single-digit performances, including three-straight seventh-place showings.
  • A Division (4th of 7) Lineup: Joseph Coyne (1-12) and John Patrick Panarella (13-14) [skippers] with Eva Fortunato (1-10) and Audrey Fung (11-14) [crew]
