Sailing Wins Tom Curtis Regatta and McCann Qualifies for ICSA Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University sailing team is clicking as its fall season continues as the team competed in four different regattas over the weekend. Highlighted by a win on the friendly waters of the Potomac River at the Tom Curtis Memorial Regatta, the Hoyas also competed for the Carl Van Duyne Trophy, hosted by the US Merchant Marine Academy, the Danmark Trophy, hosted by US Coast Guard Academy and in the Women's ACC, Round 1B, hosted by Old Dominion University.

ON THE RECORD
"We were pleased with the performances of all the teams this weekend. The women's team started off slowly at Old Dominion and we were a little worried at our first break in the day about whether we would finish top nine and move to the finals of the Atlantic Coast Championship series but the team really turned it on in the afternoon on Saturday and all day Sunday." - Head Coach Michael J. Callahan on the Women's ACC

"The coed team at Coast Guard sailed in probably the most difficult event of the season so far. They had a chance to win the event in the last two races on Sunday but stumbled a bit. I think it was a great learning experience and hopefully we can improve on that performance this weekend." - Callahan on the Danmark Trophy

"Ford McCann did well enough to earn an at-large selection for the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships. Diego will be close so we will need to wait until the selections are announced on October 19." - Callahan on the Carl Van Duyne Trophy

"Winning the Tom Curtis Regatta is always important to us. Tom Curtis '68 is the sole sailor in the GU Athletics Hall of Fame and his family's support of our program is the reason why we are a successful team. Winning the Curtis regatta by over 100 points was very satisfying." - Callah on the importance of Tom Curtis to the GU sailing team and the regatta that bears his name
